Customer Review: Lightwedge Nightvision is a great book light

I have used my Lightwedge Nightvision book light for over a year now. I am a late night person and really like to read in bed - but any light disturbs my husband who goes to sleep earlier than I do. The Lightwedge is the first book light that has not bothered him AT ALL.
I have not used it every night, but probably have used it at least once a week for the last year. Other reviewers mentioned how easy it was to scratch so I've been extra careful with mine - including getting and using the soft case. It was fine until recently, when it seems to have gotten a lot of scratches in a short time. Not sure of the cause - but I can still read well with it and the scratches, for now, are minor distractions.
I recently tried it with my husband's Kindle - I have the full size Lightwedge and it covers virtually the whole Kindle 2. I have to hold it off to the side slightly so that I can access the 'turn page' button, but other than that it works quite well. I'm thinking the paperback size Lightwedge might do a better job and only cover the screen and not the entire Kindle.
I also changed the batteries for the first time in a year. I knew it had been getting harder to see the page, even in the brighter of the two modes, but I loathe changing batteries before they are completely dead. However, once I switched to new batteries, the change was so remarkable I knew it was worth it. Perhaps I'll be able to squeak the rest of the life of those batteries out of some other light or remote in my household.
I am upset to see that this item is 'no longer available' on Amazon, as I looked it up tonight 'just in case' those scratches went from a minor to a major irritation - plus I wanted to see if the paperback version came in the Nightvision red light. If I can't find the Nightvision in either size, I'll still buy the regular white one with confidence, though, as it's a great product.

This item comes as advertised and was exactly what I expected. The "boss" has used this item in the car on night time road trips helping to navigate and it works great! I don't get blinded by the reading light getting turned on in the car. I felt like I was in a submarine on red alert.
The red light is also not very noticeable in the bedroom compared to our other white book lights.
Recommended... highly...

I am the director of an astronomical observatory (HGO). After using the red colored light wedge, I switched almost completely from red-lensed flashlights and other red led lighting systems to the wedge. The wedges can be wall mounted over a chart table for direct lighting or slipped behind computer generated sky charts - just keep the charts one sided. For reading sky reference books at the telescope and drawing galactic clusters (which is our main activity), the wedge is the best we've found so far for light. There are two light intensities - we start high and switch to low as our eye's adapt to darkness. The only problem is scratching the plastic lens. To prevent this, we slip the wedge into a paper sheet protector and attach it with a metal clip. It's a big improvement over red flashlights.Customer Review: Perfect tool for astronomers

Had to return this product. Battery compartment too short for batteries. Therefore, batteries could not be inserted and product was useless.
