Customer Review: Original Wave, the first version is the best.

I own this version of the wave and it is my constant companion. It is the first thing to go in the pocket of my overalls and I use it several times a day, everyday, even though I have a barn full of tools to draw on. I am adding this review because I think the two best features have not been mentioned. First and foremost, you can thumb open either of the blades with one hand thus leaving the other hand free to keep hold of what you are working on. You can also release the lock and close the blade one handed. The other multi-tools I have seen require an cumbersome process to get the blades open. I have owned various Leatherman tools for years. They were very useful from time to time, but they stayed in one kit box or another until this feature came along. I lost it a while back and when I went to replace it I found the new version had a socket with a bit for the phillips screwdriver. This brings me to the second advantage to this particular model. You can get other bits to go in the socket. This sounds good at first, but for me at least, it means I can loose the phillips bit and I have to carry around the extra bits to get any good out of them. If you leave them in your toolbox you are going to have to go to your tool box to get a different bit. You might as well just get the screwdriver you need. The value of this tool is the trips back to the toolbox that it saves you. Fortunately, I found my old one before I bought the new one. I am happy to see now that you can still get the original version. I am getting one for my son in law for Christmas. In short this version is elegant in its versatility and utility and durability. You just can't beat it.
