Customer Review: A great grain mill

I had previously read reviews on this machine describing airplane level of loudness and spraying of flour all over the place, so I was a little hesitant to purchase it.
After careful research, however, I decided on this grain mill and have not regretted the decision yet. Yes, the machine is not quiet. It is the same level of sound as my vacuum cleaner or a blender. But, I can grind several pounds of wheat berries in about 10 minutes so the sound doesn't bother me!
As for flour being sprayed (other reviewers point this out too), but the machine has a YES NO feature on the bowl placement. If the bowl is at the NO spot, flour will spray. If the bowl is at the YES spot, flour will not. It's as simple as that.
I like the fact that several pieces are machine washable and they provide two black sponge pieces so while cleaning one you can still grind wheat.
I hadn't seen anyone comment on this before so I thought I'd point out that the machine is not heavy. I am not a tall person and I keep the grinder above my microwave. So, I am able to easily lift it down (without a chair) and have never dropped it or been afraid of the possibility. I know I wasn't thrilled with the possibility of having to keep it on my counter so it was good to realize that I can quickly and easily pull it down, use it, and put it back with ease.

Why mill your own flour, when it's so readily available? Commercial mills remove 30 percent of the wheat kernel, removing the most nutritious part of the grain to make white flour. Commercially milled flour also removes all of the wheat germ oils to prevent it from going rancid and preserving the flour's shelf-life. Ninety percent of the nutritional value of the wheat berry is contained in the wheat germ. Wheat germ oil has almost no shelf life and becomes rancid very quickly. Rancid oil is a carcinogen; government health regulations require the removal of the wheat germ oil from all commercially milled flours to ensure safety. Milling your own flour not only ensures that your flour is as nutritious as it can be, it has a wonderful taste that is lost to commercially made whole-grain flour.
