Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Keurig B-70 B70 Platinum Single-Cup Home Brewing SystemCustomer Review: 3rd unit in 3 years. Be sure to descale regularly Summary: 4 Stars
We are on our 3rd maker in about as many years, but the wife loves and it is quite convenient. I am not a coffee drinker, but the wife is, so having this maker is convenient for just a single coffee drinker. I use it occasionally for tea or just hot water. The first unit just quit after about 9 months and after contacting Keurig, they sent out a new one and said to toss the other in the trash. That one lasted about 2 years and even though we descaled every 6 months... after we when on vacation and left the unit off for about 10 days, water would not circulate once we turned it back on. We are now on our 3rd unit and I have started to descale every 3 months now... maybe it is because we do not use it everyday the the scale builds up???
But we do like the convenience... I just hope we start doing better than having to purchase a new one every year.
Customer Review: 4 Keurigs DIED - do not buy Summary: 1 Stars
after having gone thru 4 of the Keurig Platinum editions in under 15 months, I officially DO NOT RECOMMEND this product. Machine #1 seemed to suffer from bi-polar disorder and would randomly not be in the mood to brew coffee...so it wouldn't. Then, it stopped brewing all together...couldn't get it to brew no matter how many times I restarted it or how perfectly I cleaned it...so, on to Keurig #2. Within a few weeks Keurig #2 began acting up in the same manner. After reading several blogs regarding Keurig care, I decided that the best plan would be to weekly remove every removable part there was and scrub the crap out of it. Although cleaning on a weekly basis, Keurigs #2 and #3 each quit on me. I contacted Keurig who told me that I needed to clean the machine better...what the? On to Keurig #4 - which decided on the SECOND CUP that it wasn't going to brew anymore. Clearly, this is NOT an issue of maintaining the machine. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.
Customer Review: 5 stars when it works, but it almost never works anymore Summary: 1 Stars
The B-70 appears to have a design defect on the LCD screen - it refers to modes that do not exist, such as "Brewing." They should release an updated model with an LCD screen that more accurately describes the three modes it is capable of: "Making noise," "Clogging up," and "Shutting off, ha ha!"
We've been through two B-70s in the last month (thanks to Costco's generous return policy), and are about to have to start in on our third. I'm not willing to keep screwing over Costco with returns on defective products that are due to the manufacturer's poor design, so from here on out, Keurig is going to have to send me a new machine every time one of mine begins short-cupping and turning itself off (on average, after making about 10 cups of coffee).
At least my B-60 lasted about a year before the design defects rendered it inoperable. The B-70 lasts a laughable two weeks! If the design trends continue, I expect the B-80 that they'll eventually come up with will include great features like "breaks before you even get it out of the box!"
Customer Review: A Coffee Machine That Can't Make Coffee Summary: 1 Stars
We purchased this machine in early February 2011 and have tried a Design of Experiments on the various settings and coffee types to get a decent cup of coffee. I have concluded that this machine is incapable of making a decent cup of coffee. It is consistent though. The output from the device is a cup of hot, coffee-flavored water with tones of fresh plastic. I will be going back to my press pot, which offers more options for brewing coffee. Luckily for me, Amazon Prime has a great return policy. Thank you, Amazon, for that. 5 stars for Amazon and 1 star for this product.
If you enjoy your coffee on the lighter side, then this machine will probably be okay. But, go with one of the lower priced models. The larger volume settings produce a worthless cup of coffee, so you will most likely never use it. We even purchased the reusable filter and I could not get a good result for the 2 highest volume settings. Maybe our machine is defective, but I have decided that there is nothing wrong with the press pot after trying one of these.
Customer Review: A MUST have for true coffee lovers. Summary: 5 Stars
I have nothing negative to say about my Keurig B70. We love it! It has changed how we drink coffee in our home. Don't waste your time or money on the smaller version- go for the big water tank and multi cup settings. You won't regret it.
