Compact but heavy enough to be stable when in use. It's design specifically for Shun knives.It will give the blade 16 degree angle which is unique for Shun.Most of my knives are Shun so it's great for me. Occasionally I use it also for knives of other manufacturers.The sharpener will give any blade 16 degree angle but quality blades of other brands able to handle it.

Pre-set for sharpening knives at a 16 degree angle, the Shun Electric Knife Sharpener is THE accessory for keeping all of your Shun cutlery in perfect cutting condition. Utilizing a combination of fine and course grits, pulling your knife through the channel just a few times will achieve the razor-sharpness you desire. The grindstone is removable, so rinsing and drying makes clean-up virtually effortless. This sharpener features a retractable cord for easy storage, for a clutter-free kitchen. With the Shun Electric Knife Sharpener, you are assured that your Shun Cutlery will remain beautifully sharp for years to come.It?s easy to miscalculate the correct sharpening angle when using a steel. For those who lack confidence in their honing skills, this electric knife sharpener should put their mind at ease. A sharpening channel on this appliance holds blades at the correct angle. Users simply draw knife blades through the groove several times at a consistent speed (with the power switch engaged) to sharpen them. Blades initially pass through coarse grindstones on either side, which actually shave metal from the blade; because blades are guided through the channel, they are always properly aligned so there is never a worry about creating burrs. Next, a pair of fine stones finish blades for a smooth edge. The replaceable grindstone cartridge easily disengages for washing out any stray metal shavings under a running faucet. The cartridge must be thoroughly dried before replacing it for sharpening to be effective. This electric knife sharpener also has rubber feet to keep it from skidding during sharpening, and a see-through cover to protect the machinery during storage.
