Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of the 6640-022 Table Top Blender, Oster 6640, 10 spd WhiteCustomer Review: outstanding value / perfectly serviceable, reliable & easy to clean Summary: 5 Stars
I've been reading reviews on Blenders here at Amazon because I want to take my reliable old Oster to the office to user for fresh Veggie smoothies and thought I'd "upgrade" the one I have at home. Boy, I've gotta say I've had my cheapie Oster for 6 years, use it every day, and I haven't had the problems some folks have had with blenders 8 times the price!
Conversely, some of the reviews of the Oster are silly. Sure, it leaks if you don't screw the bottom part on tight enough or forget the rubber washer.. otherwise its tight as a drum. Yes, the rubber top warped in the dishwasher, but who cares? It's soft rubber; it still bends into place and fits snuggly. Sure, the little plastic center in the lid cracked/chipped a long time ago. I just cover that part with my hand or a lid if the liquid is hot. (It did indeed get chipped during blending so I wouldn't use it at all if I were you).
The thing is -- I've put this baby under heavy use for 6 years, and it still crunches up fruit, vegies and hot soups nice as you pleased. To clean up I just pop off the bottom (or not if I'm really lazy that day) and give everything a quick rinse. Once or twice a week I throw everthing but the rubber washer in the dishwasher. You would think the blade would be way too dull to be useful by now but it's actually just fine. I have blended ice with it but don't do so regularly, so maybe that's part of the reason.
Anyway I'm giving up on the fancy $150 blender idea and buying a second cheapie oster, a worthwhile investment.
I'm not associated with this company/product in any way.
