Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Sushi Set - Sakura Cherry BlossomCustomer Review: Beautiful Set Summary: 5 Stars
I received two of theses and am very happy with them. One thing to know is that the dishes are actually textured, which you cannot tell from the pictures. It as if a translucent glaze has been put over the cherry blossom pattern, making the surface textured and giving a muted quality to the design, which is very pretty. It is a beautiful set and great quality. It also comes a nice packaged gift set to give as a gift. I have already used them and the soy sauce did not discolor the glaze, unlike other pottery.
Description of Sushi Set - Sakura Cherry BlossomThis sushi set represents the Sakura Cherry Blossom, a natural treasure of Japan. These native trees are renowned for the unsurpassed, yet fleeting beauty of their blossoms. Over 100 different species of the Sakura, or Japanese Cherry, tree are found throughout Japan. In early April, they begin to bloom with stunning pink blossoms, marking the beginning of the spring season. Single pink blossoms open first, and are rapidly followed by double blossoms. A few short days later, the blossoms fall to the earth, to be blown away by the wind. Cherry blossom season is a time for celebration among the Japanese people. Parks and cherry resorts overflow with visitors. Elaborate parties with masks and costumes are commonplace. Family and friends gather for picnics under the blooming trees. Often, work and other mundane daily activities stop during this period as people celebrate the natural beauty of the Sakura. The cherry blossom has come to represent much to the Japanese, and is commonly found in their art and poetry. Because it is closely associated with spring, it represents renewal, optimism, and youth. With the blossoms' short yet celebrated life, they are also said to represent the Samurai. Plates are 5" by 8 1/2" each. Bowls are 3 1/2" by 3 1/2" each.
