Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Jack LaLanne JLPJB Power Juicer Juicing Machine

Customer Review: Good for your health
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought one for me and one for my mother. She loved it. Cleaning is the only draw back. Otherwise, it is very health to drink juice. I have dark spot on my face skin. After I drank the juice, some disappreared. The same thing happen to my friend. Believe or Not?!

Customer Review: Good juicer but poor customer service
Summary: 3 Stars

Very good juicer, does everything it says on TV. Quiet, powerful, juices fruits and vegetables quickly and easily with a high yield of juice. The metal handle that clamps the top in place has to be positioned exactly a certain way, or the juicer will not run, and it often requires two or more tries to get it just right. But it looks like there is a new stainless steel model where the handle goes on more easily. My only problem is that after a few months I ordered an extra filter basket (which comes in a kit). This was ordered directly from the manufacturer. They told me it would come in 4-6 weeks, which it didn't. I kept calling and they told me it would be shipped within a few days. I finally got it four months later and it didn't fit right. Then they overcharged my credit card. It took more phone calls to take care of it. They should have handled it quickly and efficiently, but most of the people I spoke to were either discourteous or incompetent or both. Eventually I got somebody who was able to fix everything, but it took about six months from the time I ordered the parts. This is a fine product, but the customer support leaves much to be desired.

Customer Review: Good juicer within its limits
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been using this juicer for about a year. I found a returned model at Bed and Bath for 33.00, which included the original warranty. Good thing, too, as the motor gave it up after 6 months. Bed and Bath replaced it with a new one, which has been working well these past 6 months. Lesson learned: don't cram those carrots into the chute - feed them gently.
I agree with an earlier posting that this is a good entry level juicer. It's in no worse to clean than other juicers provided you clean up IMMEDIATELY after juicing. I tighten the grater by hand to prevent over tightening. It makes superb carrot juice. As to the debate over twin screw versus the LaLanne style of juicing, it comes down to whatever best fits your lifestyle. I do recommend looking for a refurbished or deeply discounted unit as you can save a significant amount of money, and try to purchase from a vendor that will provide an easy exchange. I suspect that a number of problems that people have with this unit is due to their own inexperience with juicers as it strikes me as well made overall. But, by all means, try juicing. The benefits are amazing.

Customer Review: Good juicer...horrible mess...Still need to chop fruits...
Summary: 3 Stars

We were impressed with how the Golden Delicious apples were juicing and we enjoyed drinking it afterward. However, the mess that was left behind left us wondering if this machine was worth it.

The mess wasn't just stuff you can wipe off. It was all the pulp, left on the blade, that my wife actually had to scrape off with a knife.

One thing that was inaccurate from the TV ad was the fact that you could put whole fruits into the slot. The apples we used had to be cut in quarters for us to put them in. Large fruits won't fit.

We dedided to return the product because the mess wasn't worth it. Besides, to get the full benefit of fuits you need to eat them whole to get the fiber. Although the juicer worked great, we were basically drinking sugar water.

For potential buyers, I leave you with this scenario: If you want a good juicer and don't mind the mess then get this product. However, if you don't have the patience to be cleaning up 5 pieces full of pulp then don't bother.

Another thing is that this would be a great product for people who constanly use protein powder. You're getting the nutrition from the juiced fruits and the taste will drown out the awful taste of the protein powder. Again, mind the mess you'll be cleaning up afterward.

Customer Review: Good output, but pain to clean
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this juicer about 2 months ago. I use it about once a day.
Overall, I'm pleased but I do feel a few things in the commercial are misleading.

Clean-up is a pain. You need to take the entire juicer apart. I usually just rinse it under hot water and air dry, then run it through the dishwasher once a week. To save some time I usually line the pulp catch with a plastic grocery bag. Also, in the commercial Jack raves about how little pulp ends up in the catch container. He's right....because 90% of it never makes it into the catch! It just sticks to the top of the inside.

The manual is misleading. In one part is advises you NOT to juice soft fruits and veggies like avocados and bananas, but a few pages later there is a recipe that calls for avocado -- go figure!

The juice is yummy, and it does seems to produce quite a bit. The only complaint about the juice is that I find I'm actually spending more money at the grocery story b/c it takes so many fruits and veggies to make one glass.
