Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of J.A. Henckels International Fine Edge Pro 8-inch Stainless-Steel Bread KnifeCustomer Review: Soft steel is easily damaged Summary: 1 Stars
The sharp edge is so soft it was damaged by the first hard-crust bread I used it on. A small pressure by my fingernail easily deforms the edge. The edge is not so thin that I would expect this, base on other knives I own including those by Henckel (German made), Gerber, Victorinox, Cold steel, Chicago Cutlery, and even a very-thin-edged chinese vegetable knife.
Customer Review: The best knife in the block Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best knife I have for bread, rolls and tomatoes. I get uniform slices with almost no pressure. It has a good feel in the hand, mine is a large hand, and cleans easily. I have 2 and have given several as gifts, much to the joy of my friends.
Customer Review: This knife is marvelous! Summary: 5 Stars
I bake bread on the average of three times a week. With my old bread knife I could never slice the bread while it was still hot because it would just mash it down and the dough would stick from crust-to-crust. This baby slices right through the bread hot out of the machine like a hot knife through butter. With this knife you can slice the bread as thin as you like and you will have beautiful, even slices at a terrific price!
Customer Review: Three strikes and it was gone Summary: 2 Stars
This knife gave a performance roughly equal to what I paid for it. Bread knives aren't really precision cutting tools, they basically need to be able to get a good grip on a hard surface and not make too many crumbs. On both these counts this knife was not successful. The blade is rather thick and as a result converts a lot of whatever it cuts to crumbs. More importantly, the serrations did not stay sharp and had a tendency to slip. After three people, myself included, got cut as a result of the knife slipping on hard bread or a bagel that was the end. I replaced the knife with a Suisin bread knife, which, while more expensive and a little hard to find, is far better as a bread knife.
Customer Review: Very nice knife Summary: 5 Stars
This knife has had consistent performance when cutting breads and cakes. I've had the knife for almost a year and it cuts as well now as it did when I bought it. I've also bought one for my mother-in-law and she is in love with this knife as well. It's definitely been money well spent.
