Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of J.A. Henckels International Everedge 13-Piece Knife Set with Bonus Cheese KnifeCustomer Review: A decent "starter" set of knives Summary: 3 Stars
Although not top quality per other reviewers, these Henckels knives are a decent starter set for amateur cooks for the price.
Customer Review: A disappointment ... Summary: 2 Stars
I've had these knives for maybe 3 weeks now and was excited to finally get them after waiting through delayed shipping. They are cheesy feeling with light weight plastic handles and they are showing rust spots on the blades after just a few trips through the dishwasher. They are nice and sharp but overall I am very disappointed with these.
Customer Review: A high-end cutlery SHOULD BE quality, fashion, and always high-end Summary: 1 Stars
Henckels ... where did you go wrong?!
Once a fan - I'm afraid you've become a bit too "Wal-Mart" in both fashion, quality, and loyalty to your former cutlery consumers...
As of late, I have found MUNDIAL (http://www.mundialusa.com/gourmet.html) to be the up-and-coming Upper East Side quality with an Upper West Side style! At least, everyone in Manhattan is raving about it! InStyle Home magazine even featured it to my surprise!
Customer Review: A nice starter set and a great value for the money Summary: 4 Stars
This set is the entry level for J. A. Henckels and they've been offering it in the US for a while at many major department stores. This isn't the premium top-end line to show off on your counters, but the day-in, day-out ones to use. We've had our set for about 7 or 8 years now and have been very pleased with it, even though we are considering upgrading. The key difference between this and the higher grade Henckels knives are that these are stamped rather than forged. And while Henckels claims the microserration of the blades mean they'll never need sharpening I beg to differ as they seem to be getting duller or less effective, especially when compared to a newer forged steel knife we've recently bought. That's hardly a concern as the steak knives do fine for eating and the other knives are more than adequate for most needs. We've never run ours through the dishwasher and I strongly recommend hand washing instead. We've given sets to family members as gifts and they have run theirs through the dishwasher and they do not hold up well to repeated washings.
Ultimately this set is for folks who want a nice set of knives at an entry level price point. That they carry the Henckels name is an added bonus, but it does rather diminish the name. More than likely Henckels is hoping buyers will like this set enough to move up to the premium brand. If so, mission accomplished as that's what we're about to do.
Customer Review: Absolute Crap, Even at This Price Summary: 1 Stars
I bought these with the intention of gifting them. I wasn't looking for high end cutlery, just a cheap but well made set of knives. I would be embarrassed to present these to someone. You could pick up knives of comparable quality at the dollar store.
These knives are shoddy, and shouldn't be sold for more than $[...]. The handles are made of cheap plastic, are uncomfortable, and poorly balanced. The blades are too thin, too flexible, and they are all serrated (fine if you want to tear rather than cut your food I guess).
For the price you can do a lot better. I immediately returned this item when I saw the poor quality. Henckel should be ashamed to put their name on this garbage.
I picked up a set of Cooks brand cutlery from J.C. Penny for about the same price with full tang riveted handles, fairly balanced, and smooth bladed.
