Customer Review: Better off with manual termostat

Thank you Anthony for your comment. The 15 min. heat strip timer explains a lot. I had a manual thermostat but its said a programmable one will save money. Changed out the old one myself - a mistake because the the installers had jury-rigged the old pre-heat pump one, and I had to add more wires from the air handler.
The non-optonal 15 min. aux heat timer is a killer, even here in Florida - if temp swing is 3 degrees, the heat stripwill come on most every cycle. I've disconnected the jumper for "emergency heat" and can use electric space heaters if it get too cold.
The other BIG problem is there's no "manual" setting. Like I'll be gone for 2 days, and I set it for 60 degrees, but with 4 time sections per day, next cycle brings it to setpoint (68). There is a "vacation" setting, but it's hard to find, and no certainty the change has taken. I was better off with the simple non-programable one, which I'd turn on when I got up, and turn down when I went to bed. Would have saved lots of $ and the cost of the new one.
