Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Hunter 44260 Set and Save Programmable ThermostatCustomer Review: Big Bang for Small Bucks Summary: 4 StarsI've installed two of these at different homes. It's easy to install and program. The four daily time settings for both the weekdays and the weekends is a big plus. The batteries should be replaced at least once a year. I do it when the time changes in the fall. All in all it's an excellent product at a low cost.
Customer Review: So far so good, easy to install and works perfectly Summary: 4 StarsThis unit I think is a good one to start with to find out if a programmable thermostat is for you and your familys particular lifestyle.
If you have someone at home all day that likes to keep the heat up, this may be of no benefit to you, as they are not for everyone.
Its economical construction and one year warrenty, as well as a low price, tell you its not a high quality unit, but its not junk either.
When this one gives up the ghost I plan on purchasing a higher quality unit that will run from my furnaces power, with a battery backup insted of battery only like this unit is.
It was easy to install and works just as its supposed to.
Customer Review: Inexpensive, and works well Summary: 5 StarsI have installed 2 programmable thermostats, this one and a Honeywell.
I installed the Honeywell in a circa 1950's house, and the Hunter in my girfriend's 2 year old house.
Both have been dependable (approaching 2 years since installation) and easy to install (I'm a home repair moron). Because of the wide variety of ac's, furniture, heat pumps, make sure you read the instructions carefully.
Neither of my installations had a heat pump, so they were relatively straightforward. (If I had a heat pump, I think I would have spent a bit more money and gotten one specifically for that...)
Advantages/Disadvantages-
Honeywell-Easier to program, more intuitive controls, THE name in household control. More Expensive (Paid around $50)
Hunter- More Features (Filter Replacement Reminder is nice), less expensive (around $25). Controls are not as straightforward, but instructions are easily accessible on flip down face plate.
Bottom Line-Both will save you money. I've seen a decrease of about 1/3 in my heating/cooling bills.
Customer Review: Works perfectly Summary: 5 StarsI bought this to replace my old non-programmable thermostat and it works flawlessly. The installation was simple and it is not very hard to program.
Customer Review: Priced well, works as advertised, and simple to install Summary: 4 StarsI'm somewhat amused by the previous review. If you cut yourself twice using simple scissors to open a plastic box, then perhaps home improvement is not your forte. Based on that, I would question the reviewer's credibility, your call.
It was simple to install (less than 10 minutes, comes with stickers to label the wires, and instructions are as good as any you'd expect) and it works as advertised. If you don't need a bunch of bells and whistles (we did not need each day programmed differently) and want an accurate digital reading, I recommend this. The Hunter brand when it comes to fans is stalwart, so I bought this with that in mind.
