Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lock & Lock 1.4 Cup 8 Piece Rectangular Value PackCustomer Review: Leak-proof containers...perfect for my lunch! Summary: 5 Stars
Awhile back, I heard someone talking about Lock & Lock containers, and how good they are. A few weeks ago, I came across this set of 1.4 cup containers in a local store. Since they looked like a good size for my lunchbox, I decided to buy a pack.
I've been VERY happy with them so far. I've packed soup and other watery things in them, tossed them upside down, and they don't leak a drop. I'm a convert...I've since purchased another set in this same size, and also one of the assorted 20 piece sets. I went through all of the inferior Rubbermaid containers I had, and got rid of most of them.
There's only one thing to be careful of...make sure the container and lid are COMPLETELY dry before putting on the lid to store it in your cabinets. I put a couple of them away that had a few drops of water inside. Days later when I got them out to use them, the moisture was still in the containers (albeit a little stagnant). Of course, this means that they are very airtight, which is exactly what they're supposed to be.
There are a couple of different companies that make similar products. I compared them at a local kitchen store, but the Lock & Lock products were the highest quality and closed the best...even better than the USA made Farberware snap containers.
Update: I've been using these containers in my lunch bag for several months now. As I wrote before, they are totally leak proof. However, I discovered that they are smell proof as well! Last week, I had brought one full of yogurt to work, which I sat on my desk and forgot about. Today, I found the container of yogurt...which looked like a science experiment gone bad, with several different colors of mold growing in the container. But, there was absolutely no smell emanating from the container. I even put it near my nose and took a big sniff. Nothing!

Customer Review: Perfect snack containers Summary: 5 Stars
These work great for snacks in lunches or single servings of side dishes for lunches and fit nicely in lunch boxes. I also don't have to worry about liquids leaking out into the lunch box if they get turned the wrong way. I also use these in the microwave almost daily and unlike the other reviewer who has had problems I have never had a problem with microwave usage. They also work well in the freezer. I also use a set for my office and my sewing room to store small loose items in and they work great and help keep things organized. They stack neatly, so they take up less room and being clear I can see what is in each one from the side so I know just which one I need. I would recommend these to anyone who has kids who take a lunch to school or who carries lunch to work or someone who has all those little catch all containers sitting around. I imagine if you are single these would come in handy to store small amounts of leftovers in.
Customer Review: REALLY Lock & Lock! Summary: 4 Stars
I am sure these little storage containers are a good thing, HOWEVER... The set I bought (YES, I DID read measurements) are EXTREMELY small (1/2 can garbanzo beans) AND are VERY difficult to open -- Possibly because the tabs are new? I am NOT in love with this set but the concept is a good one and I am willing to purchase the larger sizes.
Customer Review: Read and interpret the small print!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
It is not exactly, or totally, Amazon's fault, but if you think (as I did) that you were getting 8 containers, think again. Your "8" pieces are 4 containers and 4 tops. The product is great, but the manufacturer's sleight of hand, and Amazon's failure to call attention to what the buyer is getting, are another story.
