Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Nostalgia CCP509 Full-Size PopperCustomer Review: Ideal for Home Theater Summary: 4 Stars
When I set up my home theather in my basement I had to have an old fashioned popcorn machine. This one filled the bill perfectly. It is a little pricey, but it sets the atmosphere and I consider it decorative and functional. That's worth some extra.
I was worried that it would be a gimic, but it pops some serious popcorn. After the first batch heats up the griddle, the next batch pops in no time. This baby keeps the popcorn hot for hours. The grid at the bottom heats up and keeps the popcorn hot for as long as you leave the light on. That's a nice feature.
It has some downside and lost a rating star as a result. After about 25 poping cycle the button on the side of the pot broke off. My brother was able to repair it, but he is mechanically inclined. I would have sent it back for warranty work. Additionally, because of the shallow pot and the lid design, about 5 to 10% of the kernels never pop. They fly out when the popping starts.
Clean up is pretty easy. There are holes in the bottom that catch the kernels that don't pop. They fall into a tray below that can be pulled out and dumped. Woe be unto you; however, if you forget to put it back. I found out the hard way that it is almost impossible to get all the kernels out when they fall down inside the base.
Overall, though, this item will take you on a nice trip down memory lane. It looks the part and it works as well.
Customer Review: In the end happy... Summary: 3 Stars
This was a gift from santa claus... We were very pleased with the speedy delivery, however when un packing it Christmas Eve to put it together, we found that we had to clean the entire machine so that it would look brand new. The purchase was for a brand new pop corn machine and it had clearly been used. So needless to say we were very scared it wasn't even going to work. it had un popped pop corn in it, left over oil residue, the glass was totally smeared with yuc. Not a great feeling on Christmas Eve. We have since used it and are happy to report it is working, however, if I wanted a gently used one I would have bid for one on ebay. I wanted a new one, that is why I paid full price.
Customer Review: It's a hoot Summary: 5 Stars

Customer Review: Just Okay... Summary: 2 Stars
First of all this popper is smaller than you would expect. I do see the measurements, but It still appears a bit small...
I have to agree, this popper is only okay and here's why.
The popper smokes quite a bit. I thought it was a "new" thing - but it continues to smoke. The stirer DOES bind up so you really have to keep an eye on it. It's also a bit awkward when adding popcorn and oil - the accessibility to the pan is off to the side making it a bit strange.
This popper does make great popcorn - but you can make great movie popcorn on your stove too with the right ingredients.
This machine is okay if you want the "this is cool" factor - but that's about it. I'm still trying to decide if I should return it - it just looks cool in our game room.
Overall I would not recomment this machine. Maybe another brand would be better.
And Yes, the doors and sides ARE plastic not glass and the metal is VERY thin. The scoop that comes with it is rather cheap and has some sharp edges, as does the cart door.
One other thing - the "warming light" is a simple light bulb - and it does not keep the popcorn warm at all.
Customer Review: Just a toy, It would take all day to fill the hopper. Cute Summary: 1 Stars
If you want a item just to look at, its great, It would take all day to fill the hopper, and there is no heater in the bottom so the popcorn is cold as soon as it comes out. This is a conversation piece, not a usefull product other than 2-3 very small bags at a time. Full time job keeping any popcorn made. Want popcorn to eat, go the store and buy a tub already made. You could buy a lot for $200.
