Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of NE VR 29160 BIG CITY SLIDERS

Customer Review: A little common sense is in order here...
Summary: 4 Stars

First off, to address the complaints of the silver flakes coming off the Big City Slider (addressed BCS herein), this happens when you have impatient people meeting a cost-prohibitive device. They're overheating the darn thing and then complaining when it comes apart. These burgers are supposed to be cooked on medium-low, not "Satan spawn of hell hot". It takes probably six to eight minutes to make a decently cooked burger but it's the only way to make them SAFELY. Anyone complaining about this I'm guessing has no cooking experience with cheap teflon or else is too utterly impatient for a product such as this.

Now, the food it makes when made properly is delicious. Smaller burgers just right for potato rolls, I find it hard to make less than 60-75 for the big game, social gatherings, etc., and everyone loves them. There have been absolutely no complaints about bad food or silver flakes, which is just a testament to being able to read and follow directions on how to use the BCS. Ground chuck is the best meat, but if you're into low-fat you can also substitute ground turkey for a healthier but still equally delicious recipe. I'm a few hundred burgers into using the BCS and still going strong.

The only reason I gave BCS four stars is that it does everything as advertised except for cleanup. I'm a bit more tender with it, preferring to let it soak for a bit and being gentle about cleaning off the gunk on the upper, so it takes a little longer but not a major concern.

Customer Review: Awesome sliders
Summary: 4 Stars

I got the Big City Slider Station for Father's Day, and used it same day. I enjoyed the heck out of the sliders. I made em just like White Castle. I have to say I just gave it 4 stars because the instructions are a little off. It says it takes 2 minutes to cook over medium heat, and it may for smaller scoops of burger meat, but mine took a whopping 5-6 minutes. So I put the meat in, smashed it down, put raw onions on top, put lid back on and cooked. I put cheese on last on top the onions, with the stove on low, just to melt it. I used half hot dog buns, and they were perfect. You can even put the buns on top for a bit to warm them. I put the meat patty with onion and cheese on my bun, added a pickle, and squirt of mustard, and I swear they were as good or better than White Castle, or Krystal burgers if you're from the south. Clean up was easy too. I would use a low fat meat, got less grease. Might try turkey burgers.

Customer Review: Beware of Teflon Flu, Non-stick coating comes off, on your food!
Summary: 1 Stars

I thought this was a neat product when I read the reviews before Christmas. Now after using it just once, my burgers were generously coated with a silver substance that came off the top of the "grill". Now, I have read other reviews that discuss this problem and somebody said they ended up with Teflon flu. Luckily, I only ate two and my 2-year-old didn't eat more than a couple of bites. I am going to return it tomorrow.

Customer Review: Disappointment - Don't Buy It
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this thinking it would be fun for the kids. It is a LOT smaller than it looks on the commercial. It doesn't make hamburgers - as a matter of fact the kids asked me if I had invented Hamburger Nuggets. This would be a great invention if you were looking to make flattened meatballs. The burgers stuck to the top of the pan, making it impossible to check to see if they were done. I burnt myself more than once on the metal parts next to the handle of the lid. It didn't clean up, either. I had to scrub it with a Brillo pad to get it clean. I will be taking it back to the store, so save yourself the trouble and don't buy it.

Customer Review: Do not buy, non-stick coating melts into your food
Summary: 1 Stars

Purchased this today to make a turker burger dinner for me and my girlfriend. The slider station ruined the dinner. The first batch of 5 turned out perfect, bought the other 9 burgers (bought a pound of turkey) came out with a silver coating that I can only assume came from the non-stick coating. The meat had to be thrown away. I strongly recommend against purchasing this product, and have also sent a letter to the company that makes it to see their response.
