I bought this nut cracker to crack pecans, what a great design. It is adjustable for those smaller or larger nuts. It takes a little getting used to but overall it is a great little nutcracker. Would buy again!Customer Review: Good for all nut sizes

I chose this nutcracker over the cheaper "Duke" version because comments on the Duke one said that the threaded cylinder could not be adjusted far enough in for small nuts. Even though this one costs twice the price, the picture shows correctly that the cylinder is longer and two-sided for different sizes of nuts. It can be used for almost any nut, large or small and is sufficiently sturdy for most. It still has some flex to it when cracking a tough nut, and I would not dare attempt a black walnut or a mockernut hickory on it because it's just not sturdy enough--very few are. But it works wonders on my smaller shagbark hickories that have completely bent my traditional handheld nutcrackers beyond recognition. Any softer, grocery-store type nut (English walnuts, Pecans, hazelnuts, etc) would surely be no problem for this nutcracker. But expect to pay more if you want something really professional that can handle black walnuts or that will last for generations.
My unit also came with the base parts painted but not chromed, unlike how the picture is shown, but that doesn't bother me.

This product is exactly what I was looking for. The Reed's Rocket Nutcracker arrived within 2 days and we have been using it to get the pecans ready for Christmas baking! I'm also safety conscious and selected this Nutcracker because it had sound construction. It definitely surpassed my expectation and arrived quicker than I expected. I just received this item and it is not as pictured here. The pic shows 2 screws on one side holding the mechanism to the base (I assume there are 2 on the other), what I received has only one on each side. Item pictured shows all metal parts chomed, item delivered has lower metal parts coated, not chromed. Construction is flimsy, most parts are not machined but cast or stamped, rivets holding the pivot points together are loose and sloppy. This item may be fine for cracking a few soft-shelled nuts, but in my opinion will not hold up to anything harder than the thinnest shelled pecan. I will be returning this item.
To the sellers credit, shipping was amazingly quick, but I'm still out the $6.50 they charged.
