Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Ginsu 14-Piece Stainless Steel Knife Block Set, with Black BlockCustomer Review: Does the job Summary: 4 Stars
I have had this for almost 3 years now and am just starting to see the wear and tear on some of the knives. I love this product and would buy again.
Customer Review: EXTREMELY sharp! Summary: 5 Stars
Works so great that while using to cut an avocado, the knife slipped and went right through my finger. Good news is that because the knife was so sharp, it didn't mangle too much. Strange review, I know...but these have to be the sharpest knives I've ever used. Just use with caution! :)
Customer Review: Excellent For The Price Summary: 5 Stars
I was in the market for a matching set of knives for light kitchen use, and I didn't want to spend a fortune, so I started looking through the reviews to see what I could find. This Ginsu set seemed to please a lot of folks, and it was very reasonably priced, so I ordered it.
The knives are a nice weight, and boy, are they sharp! The blades' edges are scalloped, so I don't know how one would be able to sharpen them, but the manufacturer claims that the knives should never need it. I am going to wash these by hand, since I now understand that knives should never go in the dishwasher. The block holding the set was a little stinky when I first unpacked it, but the smell quickly dispersed.
If you're like me, and you just want a utilitarian set that looks nice at a reasonable price, check this out!
Customer Review: Excellent Professional Quality Knives Summary: 5 Stars
Excellent buy. I love cooking and entertaining and these knives have cut my food preparation time in half because of their high quality efficieny but, be careful I've knicked myself countless times already just cleaning the blades. The knives are extremely sharp and just a brush across it will draw blood. The first time I cut myself was pullign them out the box. You can't touch the blade at all without cutting yourself but, that says a lot about the quality. I won't need to sharpen these knives for years to come if ever.
Customer Review: Excellent Quality & Construction, Very Sharp. Summary: 5 Stars
These knives are hands-down, just awesome. I read one reviewer say they weren't sharp enough. What?? Not sharp enough?? What do you need to do; slice atoms in half?? I used one of these knives for the first time on a tomato today, and it performed excellently. Looking forward to trying them out on steaks, as the last Farberware set I had, even the serrated knife couldn't make it through certain sections when removing the fat before cooking. I've gone through two sets of Farberware, and after years of use they tend to break at front end of the handle because the tang is not wide enough and rots through eventually. Kind of dangerous, really, because if you put a lot of force on one like I did the other day, and it breaks, you can actually cut yourself on the end of the knife still stuck in whatever it was that you were cutting. As for the construction of these Ginsu knives....hold one in your hand and the weight alone tells you that you just got a set of superior-quality knives. Besides that, we all know that the Japanese have always had a great talent making knives and swords throughout history, and now I can see that they still do!! Buy them. Don't bother looking at other brands.
9/22/08 Update - I cut some fresh steaks out with these things, and WOW....it's like cutting through butter. My Farberware's were a chore doing the same task, which makes them junk in my eyes. If you've ever cut fresh steak; you know that intense fat that just won't cut through enough?? Well, these steaks cut the fat right out, no problem. Very satisfied!!
