Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of General Electric FXSVC FILTER SETCustomer Review: Filters water, mostly Summary: 2 StarsI purchased this product to install into a pre-existing filter system; while I can tell the difference tap water and water through this filter, it's not the same as modern filter systems. Bottom line, it works, just not great.
Customer Review: Filter replacement Summary: 5 StarsIt's the exact replacement for my under sink water filter. I believe these help my water taste better. I have had people tell our water taste good so who knows. Regardless it makes me feel better!
Customer Review: It is OK but not exactly I expected Summary: 2 StarsIt is OK but not exactly I expected. It is an older version of the filter.
Customer Review: FilterFast shipped an older model Summary: 4 StarsI ordered GE Replacement Water Filter Set as indicated on Amazon's product description as FXSVC Rev. 2, but the item shiped was an older model (Rev. 1) with a different looking tube. There is one green and one brown tube in the set. The brown-color filter tube looks very different between the older model and the Rev. 2. The Rev. 2's brown-color tube has solid plastic housing while the Rev. 1's tube that FilterFast shipped has white filter fabric outside. I understand that the brown-color tube contains charcoal filter to improve water taste. The older model allows water to flow through the surrounding surface of the charcoal tube while the Rev. 2 pushes water through the entire length of the tube, so I am assuming that Rev. 2's method is more effective as water get pushed through more charcoal contents. Other than that the product looks and works all right.
Customer Review: Gary Hoyt Summary: 5 StarsHave used this filter for a five gallon bottled water bottle for 4-5 yrs. I am on a well and donot have my water tested on a regular basis.
I use a $15.00 water tester that shows the filtered water slightly better than the tap water.
There is a red slime that comes from the primary filter of the "FXSVC" filter that remained in the canister, the "FXSLC" dubbed as the best fliter from GE had the same but only when it was new.
When I change filters, I cut the primary apart with a hack saw and discovered there was a red paper wrap. That is probably where the red slime looking stuff came from. Food for thought: is there a reason GE uses the red paper in the filters, other than for filtration?
At any rate, I continue to use the filtration unit and feel better about my drinking water because of it.
When it comes time to replace your filters you can buy them for about 1/2 of what Home Depot charges, on line. Last I used was Filters Fast, they seem to be a good company to order from.
