Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Froth Au Lait Frothing Unit, White or BlackCustomer Review: Definite product life Summary: 3 Stars
I truly think the Froth Au Lait is the best for frothing milk. We use it daily. The problems: I'm realizing there's a definite short shelve life. We're into our second FAL after the first one stopped whipping. A definite caution I would offer is make sure you thoroughly clean the container because the heating element "burns" the milk and leaves a burned milk stain. If you don't clean it, in time, the unit will stop working.
We've had our second unit for one year, maintained it properly, but it no longer heats the milk. It whips up a silky textured milk that when added to your coffee and microwaved for 30 seconds, the froth reconstitutes into the normal light bubbly texture. However, this adds another frustrating step to making that first cup of coffee in the morning!
I've rated only (3) *** because it seems to me that the product should last longer than one year if properly maintained. (Otherwise it would be 5 *****)
Customer Review: Exceeded expectations Summary: 5 Stars
After the automatic frother on my La Pavoni quit, I was annoyed by how long it took to get a good froth with the steam wand, and I had so little time in the morning. If only I could get good froth without having to stand at the espresso machine for so long. This is the answer. I can quickly make a shot of espresso, and have the skim milk going in this while I pack my lunch. The froth is silky, voluminous, plenty hot and ready to add for the espresso for a great cappuccino. If only it automatically cleaned itself.... :) The cleaning isn't bad, though. Now I'm thinking about having one at work along with an inexpensive espresso maker.
Customer Review: Excellent Customer Service Summary: 5 Stars
I lost the flavor hatch that goes into the top of the Froth Au Lait. I called the company and three days later I had a new one sent to me for only shipping cost. That is great customer service!
The unit itself is a fun little gadget. I use it three or so time a week during the winter months to make hot chocolate for the kids after school. They are totally spoiled now and ask about the froth when I get lazy and try to heat the milk in the microwave. I also use it to make froth for my French press coffee. I actually have a real espresso machine which I no longer use. It was sooooo much work. The French press coffee is strong and bitter but much easier to make than true espresso. Combining it with the froth pot milk makes a super-easy, inexpensive "cappuccino". Sometimes I add syrups or chocolate powder to the Froth Au Lait to make flavored coffees and mochas. Yum!
I don't have a problem with clean up. I rinse the unit immediately, let it sit with hot water and then wipe it out with a soapy sponge at my convenience. Seems to do the trick.
Highly recommend this unit if you have kids who enjoy hot chocolate or want to make fancy coffee drinks at home without all the trouble and expense of an espresso machine.
Customer Review: Excellent Froth Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this frother with the nespresso C100 over the aeroccino based on the reviews. It was a little larger than I expected, nearly the same size as the espresso maker, but once I got over that I love it. This unit will froth reduced fat milk into a thick meringue or you can pull it off early if you want a less stiff froth (like I do). Clean up is easiest if you rinse it right away and then leave an inch of water to soak the bottom. I've made hot chocolate by just pouring milk, dry cocoa powder and sugar into the unit and turning it on. The "lumpage" is less than when I make it by hand in a pot. Overall a great purchase. I wish they had a "latte" setting where you get warm milk with a little less froth automatically but this can be achieved by pulling it off early.
Customer Review: Fabulous Froth Summary: 5 Stars
This machine is amazing. It bakes better froth than the steamer on my Espresso Machine. Lot's of volume. Be careful you may end up with a froth mustache! Not just for coffee, you can actually make some pretty neat beverages by just adding flavored syrups.
