I purchased a Friedrich over all of the other brands because the brand is touted as ultra quiet. Installed in a bedroom and this thing keeps me up at night. I don't know which is worse not sleeping because of the noise or not sleeping because I'm too hot. I have had several other window AC units over the years which were quieter and cheaper.
When the compressor kicks on there is a constant undulating high and low pitch noise. I realize AC compressors make noise and could deal with the noise if it was constant high or constant low but the variability keeps me awake. Normally I sleep with a fan on for the white noise anyways so I am used to sleeping with some degree of noise.
It gets better. . . . I called the dealer I bought it from (Barron's in Plaistow NH) and started politely telling my story, my goal was to see if they would send out a repair guy. Before I could get the entire story out the salesman abruptly halted me and told me there were no returns on window AC units.
My expectation now is that the service tech will come out, tell me there is nothing wrong and all the Freidrich AC's have that wobbling noise. Next, I will promptly call my credit card company and squash the charge and let them fight me for it. I'm sick of it.
If I wanted to have an inferior product I could have bought at one of the big box stores for less $$ and they would also have taken it back.
