...but not in the way you would hope.
I like to make meals in bulk to see me through a week or more of lunches and such. I bought this sealer to extend that week to 2 solid weeks. I used smaller batches of food for the first 2 weeks and tried sealing a bunch of different things; eventually, though, I settled down to my main use: I sealed big batches of food, with one can following the other (15 quart bottles per event... on average). I bought the Mason jar adapter and just got down to it.
My plan worked pretty well at first, but it turns out these products have a serious liability. Whether you vacuum and seal bags or you vacuum cans without sealing anything, the sealing strip heats up every time. So far, so good. Sadly, the sealing strip overheats with repeated use and trips some safety circuit. When this happens, you have to find something else to do while the strip cools down. Then you can seal a few more cans. Then you wait. Rinse. Repeat.
If you plan to seal a thing or 2 a day, I'd say these are great investments. If you are sending Mason jars to school and work every day, go to Joewoodworker dot com and check out the 'DIY Vacuum Veneer Press'. The tool shed junkie in your family will praise you for the gift, and (once this happy person has plumbed a line and valve to your kitchen counter) you will be able to crush can after can using FoodSaver accessories.
