Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Escali Primo Digital Multifunctional Scale

Customer Review: Fabulous scale!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an item for me which has moved from "nice to have" to "must have."

Prior to this I had an old manual scale and of course this is no comparison.

Things I love about it include its portability and light weight (takes up little space). It's accurate. It has an auto-shutoff and is easy to tare. The price is not exorbitant.

I find myself using it more than I ever thought I would for weighing ingredients for recipes, dividing bread dough into even loaves/segments, splitting recipes in half, I could go on and on.

I like to grind my own meats and freeze in half pound increments. This little scale fits easily in a clear gallon sized storage bag where it can weigh things while staying sanitary. Great!

I love it and am always finding new uses for it. Which is a sign of a great kitchen tool.

Customer Review: Fantastic kitchen scale! Accurate, fast, easy to use
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this scale when our old one was dying. The old scale took ages to zero and the weight would change with the slightest shifting of the item being weighed. Not so with this scale. It zeros quickly and has the option of manually turning it off. The weight is accurate, even if you remove an item and place it back on the scale. We use it to measure portion sizes, and so far, it has worked perfectly.

Customer Review: Food Scale
Summary: 5 Stars

So far this food scale has been great. I've had it for several months now and have had no problems. It is small, it looks nice in the kitchen, I weigh everything on it, and the battery is still fine. I've seen no glitches or any conflicting readings on it. There's actually not too much to say about it. It is a very reasonably priced scale that so far has worked just fine for every meal :)

Customer Review: Fun to Use; Helps Diet!
Summary: 5 Stars

It comes in lots of great colors, is easy to use, cleans easily, and stores easily. Helps all of us dieters whose portion sizes creep up.
It's reasonably priced and solid. I definitely recommend it.

Customer Review: Functional scale
Summary: 4 Stars

It looks cheap and built cheap but it works, that's the bottom line. It's not a precision instrument for medicine, it's for kitchen use.

I had compared with another similarly priced scale, being sold at Costco at the time but chose this one. The reason was the battery. Theirs used 9v. instead of AA. I have a bunch of Eneloop rechargeable, ironically I bought at Costco, so I always make sure the gadget works on AA(or AAA) battery, not pre-installed re-chargeable or uses other size rechargeable.

The unit I got included two pairs of batteries. One set was good brand name, another set(already installed) was dead awful cheaply made no name batteries. I'm still using the dead awful ones for a couple of months and I use it everyday with no problem, so it's been all good.

Here's the nit picking part. Even though it's not built for precision measuring, it's slow to settle the reading if you are trying to adjust the weight to the last digit. It goes up and down very slowly until the number stops, then you put more powder in trying to bring up the next number. It goes past the next number then comes down, then goes up again then comes down. You have to repeat several times, until the number really stops.
It has three mode, 0000 grams, 000.00 oz., and 00 lbs + 00.0 oz. When you use it oz. mode, the last digit shows only 0 or 5.

So, there's a limit you can ask, but if you already know the limit, you'll be quite happy with this scale. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for sturdier built model though.

I recommend it.(for the kitchen use, of course)

*UPDATE*(Feb-05-10)
The original cheap batteries started to leak about a month ago. I replaced them with NiMH rechargeables instead of another set of Duracells it came with. Some battery operated gadget don't accept rechageables but this one does. It's been a month since I replaced them and they work just fine.
