Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Primula Flowering Tea Set with 40-Ounce Pot, ClearCustomer Review: A great gift for all tea drinkers! Summary: 4 Stars
I bought the Primula Tea Pot Set as a Christmas gift. What a hit at our holiday celebration! We opened the box on the spot and made a pot of tea. Everyone looked on with amazement as we watched this little ugly tea ball open and turn in to a pretty little flower.
We boiled water on the stove in a regular pot [as you do with any china or porcelain tea pot]. We gently poured it over the flower ... and waited. In a few seconds it floated to the top and went in to a dance. One by one, the ugle brown fronds opened and a lovely little flower started to emerge [maybe 2 1/2" dia]. The flower finally all opened, sunk to the bottom of the pot and rested there as we gazed at it and enjoyed our tea. My guess, the type of flower has anything to do with the flavor of tea; flavor is likely infused in to the flower.
The tea itself was kind of weak for my taste, but I am not an avid tea drinker so I will reserve judgment here. Serve it to say, this should not a deterent. We received the jasmine tea flowers with the pot. Other flavors are available.
The tea flowers are sold separately for use in any tea pot, but I would highly recommend the clear pot - you'll miss all the fun without the clear glass as a stage.
Not sure how my DIL will reuse the flower [says you can use each flower 3 times]. The flower is very delicate so we'll see how storage and reuse works [ we zip locked it for transport home and storage].
Set comes with the clear glass pot, a clear glass infuser to use with loose tea vs. the flower balls, and a full box of jasmine tea flowers [12]. Even the box that the flowers balls come in is just lovely.
Overall, I would highly recommend this gift for anyone who enjoys tea. Good value [just $30], relaxation, and enjoyment are defintely all there in this set!
Gave it 4 stars vs. 5 stars because they do not tell you how to remove the flower or store it. That would have helped.
Customer Review: A perfect gift! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my mom and my mom-in-law and they both LOVE it! It looks great and the tea taste awesome. I'm going to order more as gifts. I hope one day, I'll get it for myself (once I'm done buying gifts = which is never).
Customer Review: A well-received gift. Summary: 5 Stars
I sent this as a gift for a friend in the US. She called me on the day she received it and said she was delighted with it and I could tell by her voice that she meant it. She said that she and her husband had rekindled their romance over a tete a tete tea party! Anyone for tea?
Customer Review: A wonderful tea set / gift. Summary: 5 Stars
This is a fantastic tea set! The glass tea pot is very nice and also the infuser but the flowering teas are just wonderful. I brought it as a treat for my girls, they love to have tea, but I didn't tell them the teas "flowered" or opened as they steeped. They were blown away to watch the flower take shape and then the tea itself is fantastic! Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Attractive product, but not that well designed Summary: 4 Stars
The variety of blooming teas this came with was really lovely; my mother really enjoyed watching them bloom and they looked attractive in the pot. The teas were great in appearance, flavor, and fragrance. The experience of watching the teas bloom is great.
However, the pot itself - particularly the infuser - left a lot to be desired. The design is just not optimal for pouring tea. If you leave the infuser in, liquid tends to dribble out of the infuser and the spout, and if you pull the infuser out a bit before pouring, it works a little better, but even then there's spillage issues. Also, since everything is glass, it can quite hot, which can make touching the infuser and/or lid difficult. You definitely shouldn't get extremely hot boiling water in here (it's not great for the tea, and it can get the lid very hot).
Overall, it's a really attractive product. The tea pot itself feels fragile (it's light, somewhat thin glass), but it seems to hold up well. The teas look, smell, and taste very nice. However, I just wish it was designed a little better for actual usage.
