Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale - Professional Food and Nutrient Calculator

Customer Review: A great kitchen tool
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this scale! I use it many times a day because I am tracking my calorie intake. By using this scale, I have noticed that the measures and corresponding calorie values on packages aren't always exact, so with this tool I can be more accurate. It is also handy to calculate the nutrient value of ingredients in recipes I make. I find it easy to use and it doesn't take up a lot of space on my counter. Before I bought this, I looked at other nutritional scales, and this one had more features. It is an investment well worth it!

Customer Review: A great tool to manage your diet
Summary: 5 Stars

This scale is a great tool to help you manage your diet. The food database is large and convenient to use. Managing ingredients using the tare weight feature is a snap! The scale has a stylish appearance and doesn't make me want to put it away when I'm not using it.

I highly recommend this scale!

Customer Review: A must have for any diabetic!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had recently found out about this item through some diabetic friends of mine, incidentally I too, am a type 1 diabetic. I bought this last month and absolutely love it! I use an insulin pump and have to count mycarbohydrates pretty strictly. The items which I have to "guess" on the carbs are no longer a mystery to me! We all know the cheat sheets, so to speak... "a fist of rice is about 45g of carbs" well, my fist is much smaller than my boyfriends, so does this mean he gets to eat more rice for the same 45g of carbs, I think not! Now I can just weigh what I'm eating and not have to guess anymore, its great! Carb counting was the main reason I bought this scale, but it has many other great features I use as well. I like the way the scale has 999 items programmed into it for quick and easy use. It comes with 2 books, one of the different codes and how to use the scale and another with all kinds of diet and health info. The only possible negative thing I would say about the health and food info book is that it seems more geared towards type 2 diabetics, rather than us type 1's. But that wouldn't deter me from recommending this to a friend, it is very good tool to have around!

Customer Review: A must have for every Dietitian
Summary: 5 Stars

As a dietitian, I love this scale. I can obtain accurate nutritional info on any food item I place on the scale, instead of an estimation. It is an excellent tool for teaching about carb counting. It can be used for any patient that needs to control nutrients in their food intake. I highly recommend this scale to dietitians and their clients.

Customer Review: A practical tool to manage your health
Summary: 4 Stars

With a recommendation from my RD, I bought the scale as a Christmas gift to myself. I am using the scale to learn the carb count method to manage my diabetic control. I have been controlling my blood sugar at a pretty good level (average A1C at about 6.7 for the last five years). I want to achieve even better control for my blood sugar. The scale is exactly the tool to help me to achieve my goal.
The scale itself is good and very practical. Although one can calculate 12 nutrients from the 999 foods programmed into the scale's memory, there is a significant drawback about the food lists. All the foods in the list are in a simple form. It can tell you the nutrients from mushroom,-white-microwaved, or bacons-baked, or pork-sirloin,-boneless- roasted. However, it cannot tell you the nutrients for "complex" cooking. For example, there is no way to find out a homemade beef stew, that contains many ingredients (carrot, celery, potato, green bean, pea, etc).

Nevertheless, the scale is good toll for anyone who wants to learn more about healthy eating. I have only used it less than a month. I already love it.
