Customer Review: Great for the price but the combo lock could be better.

We ordered the DormVault DV450 for my son who is going off to college this fall (2009). We were looking for something basic that would let him keep some small items (ipod, camera, wallet) relatively safe. We received the package today and I thought it was a relatively good deal. The DormSafe was well built. The metal appears to be fairly thick, its slightly thicker than the metal on my craftsman tool box, and a little thicker than what would be used in a school locker. It looks a little bigger than what it did in the photos, hoping it fits on the bed at school. The only downside (so far) is the quality of the combo lock. The mechanism looks and feels cheap. We'll probably replace it with something like a TSA luggage combo lock (like the Eagle Creek Travel Gear Superlight TSA Lock).

DormVAULT is a small, rugged safe that attaches harmlessly to a loft bed or other furniture. Easy to install, no tools required. Compact Design that is small and light. A 7 3/4 inch Cube, weights 6 pounds with a combination lock and can store your credit cards, cash, cell phone, as well as the other important things you want SAFE. The owner controlled bracket assembly consists of a bracket arm and two locked nut and bolt assemblies.
