Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Debbie Meyer Green BagsCustomer Review: Can't find your way into a bag, I guess. Summary: 5 Stars
These bags work wonderfully well, if you read and follow the instructions. Either these people are here at the behest of those marketing the drop-in-the-drawer products competing with these, or they're too dense to follow simple instructions--or maybe too lazy to change a paper towel out twice a week. We've kept things at least three times as long, both in refrigerator and out.
And you don't refrigerate bananas unless you're going to eat them right away--they're a unique TROPICAL FRUIT, they don't do well in the cold, no matter WHAT they're stored in--or NOT stored in. It's the cold that rots them, not the bags. Sheesh. Morons. I could give these to a monkey and he'd use them better than this bunch of bananas. LOL.
Customer Review: Changed my eating habits Summary: 5 Stars
I did not buy fresh vegetables very often because they went bad so quickly. Lettuce, celery, scallions, cabbage, carrots, brocolli, have all been saved for days/weeks in this storage. I am so happy. I have had less luck with bananas, green beans - but maybe I didn't store them properly - and califlower. But for the sald greens, I am eternally grateful. Amazing!!!!!!!
Customer Review: Changed the quality Summary: 2 Stars
I have been buying this item and other brands for the last few years and have always been very pleased. I am raw vegan and buy tons of produce. However, in the box I recently received from Amazon the gauge was extemely thin, so thin in fact the I thought I didn't receive bags at all but defective single sheets of plastic. I have to work to get the bag to even open, and just now a bag broke from the weight of trying to get a head of cabbage in. I would try another brand next time. The "large" size is also smaller than I remember.
Customer Review: DISAPOINTED Summary: 1 Stars
I have used these green bags many times before, this particular shipment of them is defective, my banannas rotted in the bag within 3 days, they sweatted inside the bag, this has never happened before with any produce I have put in them. I have always been pleased with them and have recommended them to many of my co-workers and friends, this shipment of them however was not what was expected so I believe they were sub standard.
Customer Review: DON'T BUY, SAVE UR MONEY Summary: 1 Stars
I was very skeptical about these bags when I saw them on TV commercial. Then one day, I saw it at the store "on sale" so I tried them ($9.99 for 25 bags). I had to find out for myself it they really work. It's true that the ethylene gas is the culprit to rotting fruits and vegetables faster. BUT, these bags DO NOT help much.
I tested them with the bananas. Yes, they don't look brown after 5-7 days, but they are very soft on the inside. At first, I was like "wow, they do work!" but then I took a bite out of the bananas "ewww, rotten taste". I rather used my old trick, once they start having freckles, I put them in the fridge. Sure they turn brown on the skin, but they taste great on the inside.
I tried them on strawberries, they caused them to rot faster! It's false advertising I'm telling you.
The trick to fresher lettuce, don't buy these bags and save your money. Just use a plastic knife and carve out the cord of the lettuce. Keep them dry in your fridge wrapped in 2-3 pieces of paper towels (no plastic bag) and VOILA! Longer lasting lettuce! The cord is the ethylene gas producing part of the lettuce.
I'm a vegetarian and I like to find ways to keep my veggies last longer and I should have saved my money not buying these bags!
