I've had Rival Crockpots since the early 70's and they were all great. Then I got THIS. Wanted to cook large quantites to have plenty of leftovers, BUT...this pot is only good if I want to boil meat. Beans, potatoes, and stews burn and stick badly. Meatloaf looks like a burnt offering for the "gods". I can't even simmer corned beef and cabbage while I'm at work - by the time I get home, even if the pot is on the lowest setting, the water has boiled low and the meat is sticking because the bottom got far too hot. This is NOT a good investment. Unfortunately, I didn't do my research before purchasing it. Am now looking at Hamilton Beach products as they all seem to be getting very high ratings both on-line and with people I know. I use to swear by Rival Crockpots, but not not anymore. BTW, the newest version has a hinged lid for "buffet serving". It is NOT a good thing either as you can't get the lid to move out of the way in order to remove the liner to clean it. Ive had this slow cooker for over a year now, and cook quite often with it. It burns absolutely everything I put in it if I dont watch it very carefully, which kind of defeats the purpose of a slow cooker. If a recipe has a cooking time for high in the slow cooker, I will set the crockpot on low and cook it for the amount of time the recipe says to cook it on high. I will not leave it unattended because it cooks so hot and I am afraid of it causing a fire.Customer Review: Burns everything

I've had this slow cooker for about a year and a half now. This cooker burns EVERYTHING unless I stay home to babysit it. I find that 10 hour recipes burn at the top and round the edges after only a few hours on the low setting.
I was so disheartened to come home from work and smell burnt lamb vindaloo/chili/lentil soup. I finally gave up on it. Since the warranty is expired, I decided to keep it and use it for keeping things warm for parties, etc. It is completely worthless as a slow cooker.
If you plan on using this to cook while you are away, do a little research on other brands. I do not recommend this one.

I got this as a gift. The knob on the top was the first to go; it cracked on the bottom and fell off. I couldn't get a replacement knob, so I used a lid from another Rival crock pot that had melted handles. Guess what? The handles were the next thing to go--one cracked when I picked it up to wash it-thank goodness it was empty! I continued to use it and the second handle cracked off. It had a metal handle under the plastic so I just peeled off the plastic and continued to use it. NOW the stoneware crock cracked from one side to the other and that's the end of that. The stoneware crocks that I have from other crock pots aren't the same size. I wouldn't recommend Rival to anyone. I haven't had a Rival crock pot that didn't have the handles either melt or crack. I didn't have internet before, so I didn't have Amazon and had to buy from the local WalMart. I haven't been able to get any of the parts for the crock pots I have (four!) and Rival says they are all unavailable, even though they are still making the same model!!! How can they continue to make this model but be unable to supply replacement crocks, lid, or handles? This will be the last Rival product that I buy.I had to give this one star, but it doesn't even deserve that.Customer Review: CUSTOMER SERVICE 5 STAR
