Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Crock-Pot 3735-WN 3-1/2-Quart Slow CookerCustomer Review: Perfect for lentils and Indian dhal cooking Summary: 5 Stars
This is very good for Indian dhals and lentil cooking. With pressure cookers, there are spilling and foaming problems when you cook Indian dhals, and the kitchen needs to be cleaned constantly. The slow cooker does not have that probelm.
You can throw the dry lentils with water right before you leave for work and come back and have fully cooked lentils. If you want your lentils the first thing in the morning, start the cooking process right before you go to bed. You can reduce the cooking time by half for lentils, if you cook on high heat.
This slow cooker is quite large and I can cook lentils for big Indian parties.
It's very easy to wash. Just remove the pot and put it in the dishwasher.
I'd strongly recommend this product for Indian cooking.
Customer Review: Purchased 1st Rivel crockpot 1977 and it still works..... Summary: 1 Stars
Yup, I purchased my first Rivel Crockpot in 1977 and it is still kicking, nothing ever broke, the plastic lid is fine and was always durable. Granted, it has only Low, Med, High, (off/on) also WARM. It is a 5 qt. capacity, real brown crock with a yellow tin base. Think I paid approximately $29.99 for it. I love it and can't believe you gals are purchasing a new crockpot in 2010 and by the same Company which originally made the first crocks and Rivel is going doing hill like a one wing airoplane. Plastic covers breaking, handles fall off and Rivel doing nothing about it - in 1977 Rivel would have sent all you gals new crockpots and personlly had someone followup on each and everyone of you for feed back. I thinking of purching this particular crockpot but after reading you horrible reviews regarding Rivel's customer service I am keep me ole crockpot and if it blows a gasket sooner or later think I will go to Hamilton Beech they have great reviews and outstanding writeups. Tip I just read on the Net under reviews, said we should look at crocks 'WHITE' crocks and not at ones with dark colors inside.
Customer Review: Rival Crockpot 3 1/2 qt. Summary: 3 Stars
One of the reviews described this crockpot as cool to the touch. Even on low there is a spot that is hot. On high the entire outside is too hot to keep a hand on it. A bad feature that makes me uncomfortable leaving it untended all day.Aside from that (which is a major consideration) I love the way it cooks, the design is attractive, and the size is very convenient. Also, I have not been able to find out what is meant by the "auto-protect safety system"
Customer Review: Same crock-pot quality Summary: 5 Stars
I got this to replace my old crock-pot (one handle and control knob broken, after years of use). Only change is elimination of "warm" setting. Since I never used it I won't miss it. This one appears to be of the same quality as the old, and I expect many years of use.
Customer Review: Satisfactory for price, but could be better... Summary: 3 Stars
My crazy life caused me to turn to the convenience of a crockpot. Indeed, there's nothing better than coming home from a nutty, busy day to find dinner (which you threw together while you were making lunches at the beginning of the day) hot and bubbling, waiting for you to dish up and enjoy.
That said, when I needed to replace my old crock pot, I picked this one up at my local Target. I like the oval design; it fits better in my cabinet than my round one did. The price is great. However, I have to agree with several of the reviewers who feel the lid doesn't give a tight seal. Nearly every time I use it, I come home to the lid banging and bumping open as the meal is simmering, and juices/sauce spattered all over the counter and backsplash.
Oh, and one other thing would really make this a much better crockpot. An indicator light, for those of us who sometimes forget to plug the thing in. I did this once, after filling the pot, turning it to low, and leaving for the day without first plugging it in. I came home to cold raw meat and veggies (which of course I had to dump), and the pizza delivery boy.
