Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Convair Arctic Breeze Swamp Cooler With 300 Sq. Ft. of Cooling PowerCustomer Review: It works (for me, at least)! Summary: 5 StarsI have used mine for a few years, and it works as it should. For those who fear the bad smell from a swamp cooler, replace the aspen pad (that comes with the unit) with the blue synthetic evaporative pad that is available from Home Depot. Not only does it control the smell very well, it also helps improve the cooling efficiency. I sometimes use about half a teaspoons of bleach on the first bucket of water to help kill the algae that contributes the smell.
Right now, it is 104F outside, with a relative humidity of 19% (as reported by [...]). The output air temperature is 70F with a RH of 80% (as checked by a non-contact infrared thermometer). Considering the unit only consumes about 200W max, I can't really complain!
If you plan to use a swamp cooler, make sure you have efficient ventilation. Otherwise, the moist air will just stay in one area, which can be quite uncomfortable. I put an exhaust fan at the other end of the house to help move cool air through the house.

Description of Convair Arctic Breeze Swamp Cooler With 300 Sq. Ft. of Cooling PowerNo other portable evaporative cooler compares to the Convair Arctic Breeze 1500 for affordable high-output cooling. With a wider cooling range than other similar evaporative coolers, the Arctic Breeze lives up to its name, providing refreshing relief from the sweltering summer heat. You won?t want to retire this energy-efficient unit when the weather turns colder, though. It?s the perfect humidifier for those dry winter months?say goodbye to cracked, itchy skin. Non-corrosive polymers mean you can enjoy all-season comfort without worrying about rust. How Evaporative Cooling Works. Water needs heat to evaporate. The result is cooler, cleaner, fresher air. Its that simple. All without fluorocarbons or other chemicals used in refrigerated air cooling. They're not only better for the environment, they're better for you.
