Colanders take up a lot of room in the cupboard-or they used to. Chef'n has designed a colorful, collapsible colander that takes up little space and is just plain fun to use. Made of flexible, high-grade silicone that meets or exceeds even Germany's stringent food safety regulations, the six-inch round scoop pops outward and stays open for draining a can of beans or saucepan of vegetables, then compresses after cleaning for storing in a drawer. Stain-resistant and more durable than regular silicone, the Chef'n silicone is heat-resistant to 650 degrees F, which means it easily withstands boiling water, while the nylon frame handles temperatures up to 400 degrees F. This colander with its 12-ounce capacity isn't big enough for draining a large stockpot-worth of pasta, but it is extremely handy for smaller draining jobs, scooping boiled shrimp out of a big vat, and rinsing fresh berries. The rim easily rests over a bowl or pot.
