Received as a gift, I thought it was brilliant for a couple weeks until the plastic auger screw mechanism snapped in two pieces making it useless. The idea is great, but the force needed to press the cloves of garlic through the extruder plate is far too great for the no-tech plastic. If the threaded mechanism were made of stainless steel it would be a marvel to behold. What it might be good for is to store the contents of a 6 oz can of tomato paste and be able to squeeze out small portions for a recipe, placing the unit with the rest of the tomato paste back in the refrigerator for later use. The lid or cap to it has a nice positive seal that would keep air out and leaks stopped. One has to understand too that once the compartment for the garlic has been filled, then the auger screw sticks out about 2 - 4 inches making it longer and less compact to stow away in the refrigerator. I suppose if you chopped the garlic before you placed it in the machine it might be easier to extrude, but then you've already lost all the ease, convenience and time savings, plus dirtied more stuff. You could put less garlic in the unit at one time, but again you loose the whole point of the thing.

I was so fed up with garlic crushers that you have to be Arnie S to have work effectively. The twist press is an excellent idea and works brilliantly using up the whole clove of garlic.

Garlic presses are a stupid idea, anyway, but really, just whack it with a knife--so much easier than scouring out this dumb thing every week. This sounds gross. Anyway, FRESH GARLIC ISN'T FRESH IF IT SITS MASHED-UP IN YOUR REFRIGERATOR FOR A WEEK.
