Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Chef's Choice 675 International Cordless Electric Hot PotCustomer Review: STAINLESS STEEL SURE TASTES BETTER THAN PLASTIC!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Using for two weeks now, so far so good. This unit has a seamless stainless steel lining. That equals no bad plastic tasting beverages. I bought a Braun that was lined with plastic and it made my French press coffee taste LOUSY. (I can't imagine using the Braun for a lightly flavored tea. Maybe the more expensive Braun's are stainless, but not for this 49.95.)
Customer Review: Safety hazard Summary: 1 Stars
I have had this kettle for about a year, and have been very happy with it. However, a couple weeks ago I started having the problem that many other reviewers here have complained about, the on/off switch not staying on. Curious, I opened up the bottom of the kettle, and found the two wires going to the heating element had melted together, causing an intermittent short. I have reported this to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, and I hope that something will be done.
Customer Review: So far, so good Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this because it looked easy to clean and the heating elements would not be exposed to our hard water. So far, so good.
The description on this site says it's perfect for heating soups, hot chocolate, etc., but the instruction booklet specifically states to heat nothing in it except water. I suppose a watery broth would be okay, but nothing with low water content.
It is rather noisy when heating water, but it looks good, goes easily on and off the base, is easy to clean, and it heats fast. It it doesn't malfunction, then I'll be satisfied with it. (Note: It's now 2010 and it's still working. You have to pour hot water slowly or you get a splash instead of a stream--so I pour slowly and all is well.)
Customer Review: So great I donated my teakettle Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this because, let's face it, Alton Brown just rocks. He recommended it "Gear for your Kitchen". I was sick of using my regular stove top teakettle - it would collect grease and dirt, requiring scouring on a regular basis. It was Murphy's Law that the kettle would whistle just when I had my hands full or was busy with something else.
This electric hot pot boils water just about as fast (I tested it myself). But it doesn't whistle and shuts itself off when it reaches a boil. AB recommended this one because of the large opening, and true to his claim, you can indeed cool the perfect hard boiled egg - 6-7 at a time, actually. I love that it doesn't live on the stove where it collects grease (I've wiped the outside down twice in a year). I love that it's cordless. The only "downside" is that when I make tea, I make 2 qts at a time and the capacity on this is only 1.5 qt, so it could be just slightly larger (Oh - and don't try to heat milk based things in it - the clean up is horrid - I tried to heat up chai in it).
Customer Review: The Best Electric Kettle at any Price! Summary: 5 Stars
There are cheaper ones and there are more expensive ones, but this is the one you need to buy. It has the largest opening so you can access the inside for cleaning and--Boiled eggs, thanks Alton Brown for the tip!-- and no plastic exposed to high heat. We use every day and strongly recommend!
