Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Chef's Choice 675 International Cordless Electric Hot Pot

Customer Review: I have never boiled so much water in my life.
Summary: 5 Stars

I am an avid tea drinker and had previously used a stove top tea kettle. I now count this among my required devices to continue a civilized existence. I have had it for about 4 months now and I have no idea how I lived life before it. It boils water quite quickly, has not had any hiccups, and gets used 6+ times a day in my house. I don't know what more I could ask of this electric kettle, but it has exceeded all of my expectations.

Customer Review: I love it!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this on Good Eats and Googled that and electric kettle and found it. I don't drink hot drinks that often but I use it for brewing tea for iced tea and also for iced coffee drinks. I also hard cook eggs in it. The wide mouth is better than the kettles with smaller openings. The auto-off feature is a great addition especially for the eggs. Just add a few minutes for soft boiled eggs or a few more for hard cooked. Love it.

Customer Review: Just what I wanted
Summary: 5 Stars

This is REALLY nice. FAST boil and easy to clean--no exposed element-you can use it for anything. It is EXACTLY what I wanted and am VERY pleased. We use it every day. Eggs, tea, stock--it does it all and easy to clean stainless.

Customer Review: Kitchen Workhorse--love it!
Summary: 4 Stars

I got this because Alton Brown (Food Network personality) recommended it in one of his books. It heats up water VERY quickly...this is extremely helpful for someone like me who drinks a lot of tea.

However, don't just stop with tea. Because the mouth of this kettle is so wide, and since it brings a liquid to a boil and then automatically shuts off, it is great for making hard-cooked eggs, couscous, etc. It is nice to have an appliance that heat liquids because it frees up a stove burner for other things--helpful when I'm making a big dinner and every burner is taken. Many other kettles I consiered lack a wide mouth don't allow for this...in other words they work to boil water, but you can't "stretch" their intended use. Like Alton Brown, I like multi-task kitchen items, so this kettle is a real help for me.

Also, because the cord is NOT in the kettle itself (and again, because of the wide mouth) cleaning the kettle is easy enough. Like any item kettle, mineral deposits from the water may build up slightly. It's fortunately easy to clean due to the wide mouth that I keep mentioning...

The only reason for not giving this item 5 start is that the spout could have been engineered a little better--it does dribble or spatter and getting the water to flow out perfectly is a pain. Just be careful and be aware of this...I personally have not had a problem.

Customer Review: Lightning fast!
Summary: 4 Stars

This kettle heats water in 1/3 the time needed on my stovetop. It is faster than the microwave. If I want a couple cups of warm water, I can heat it faster than the water flows to hot from the tap in my kitchen. It takes about 4 minutes for 1.25 liters of water to boil.

The electric hot pot is very easy to use. The kettle separates from the base with no stickiness or grabbiness. It sets back on it easily. Hot water pours easily. If you pour too fast, it does get a little sloppy but I had to try to make it so. My normal care with pouring boiling water made pouring from this kettle drip free.

The kettle has clean looks and is attractive on the countertop. It doesn't take up much space (less than a #10 can). The base is stable and nothing seems like it will tip or shift.

The automatic turn off lets the water boil -hard- for about 30-45 seconds before engaging.

I particularly like the clean, stainless interior. It is easy to care for and doesn't have nooks and crannies to build scale or collect crud.

The Chef's Choice Electric Hot Pot 675 does everything I want it to do and does it fast and well.

I like it and recommend it.

Edited on 2/2010 to add:

After several months of daily use the plastic lid has slightly warped. This almost unnoticable warp causes the sensor to not register when the pot is at the boil. It will boil and boil without shutting off. If you press the lid slightly, it shuts off right away. Luckily for me, the way I use the pot I am always right in the kitchen and it is very obvious by sound alone when it comes to a boil. It hasn't really been an issue or a danger to me but I did drop my rating by one star. I still like the pot a lot and have no qualms about using it.
