Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Chaney Instrument 00985 Wireless Refrigerator Freezer Thermometer Alarm SetCustomer Review: Defective Trash Summary: 1 Stars
When I opened the package and inserted the batteries the main unit display was missing segments and barely visible. When I inserted the batteries in the remote sensors one immediately got hot and started smelling burned. Worthless junk!!
Customer Review: Distance Issue Summary: 3 Stars
Have only had the item for a few days - still works!! Issue is the transmit distance. Might be 100 feet if you don't put it inside the frig. Had to attach the receiver to the outside of the frig to get it to work- might get 10 feet if I open the frig door.
Customer Review: Does not work as advertised Summary: 1 Stars
This product advertises a wireless range of 100 feet. I found this to be untrue.
I bought this to sound an alarm on a freezer in my garage, roughly 60 feet away. The monitor and sensor DO NOT work at that range.
Only buy this product if your freezer is right next to where you will keep the monitor.
Customer Review: Does the job Summary: 4 Stars
If you have invested in a freezer full of food a temp alarm is essential insurance. This dual unit is cost effective. Using one in refrigerator and other in chest freezer on porch about 20 feet away - no issues with wireless signal. Magnetic main unit conveniently attaches to side of refrigerator for easy viewing of temps. Be sure to use lithium batteries in the freezer sensing unit - alkaline won't handle the low temps. My experience with lithium is they last a very long time, so the extra cost shouldn't deter you. The alarm delay feature is nice. Customizing min/max temps is easy. Sensing units can be attached with clips or suction so should work in any configuration. Only negative is the freezer temp sometimes seems to fluctuate dramatically - always within safe range, but occasionally it will set off alarm for min temp. I don't think it is the freezer as another older thermometer doesn't show the same fluctuation. Perhaps I'll try moving sensor to another location and being sure food isn't packed against it.
Customer Review: EXCELLENT product Summary: 5 Stars
Works very well. My only suggestion would be to switch the display. Currently the refrigerator display is on top and freezer is on bottom. \
To match with top/bottom refrigerator/freezers.
Of course you could just switch the sensors but then you couldn't use the alarm.
Otherwise works very well and I will get another for my other refrigerator.
