Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Burt's Bees Super Shiny Shampoo Grapefruit and Sugar Beet -- 12 fl oz

Customer Review: Love this stuff!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this shampoo and conditioner most days for two or three weeks now. For the first several days I used it, I hated it--my hair felt lifeless and flat. But after a while my hair started getting used to it apparently, because it's now very soft and shiny, with plenty of body. Also, a lot of shampoos tend to make my scalp itchy, because I have fairly sensitive skin, and I've noticed that it's not itchy at all with this stuff. The shampoo smells slightly like orange, and the conditioner smells kind of chemical, but it does work. I've noticed that you also have to be a little more generous with the amount of shampoo you use versus most shampoos for it to lather well. But I love it!

Customer Review: Nice scent and good lather!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm no cosmetic expert. In fact I have absolutely zero interest in cosmetics (and don't even wear them) so you know I'm not someone who buys beauty products for fun and for the novelty of it. But I live in the desert where the dry air desiccates your skin so I sometimes have to pick up product for skin care. I got attracted to the Burt's Bees products via their cute and creative in-store displays and then ending up trying a wide range of their products.

I like this shampoo. It has a wonderful smell as you put it on your hair: spicy and citrus-y. Men in particular will be relieved to know that the scent is subtle and doesn't last. It lathers up richly and feels gentle on the scalp. It doesn't seem to leave a soap residue on your hair like some shampoos can over a period of weeks. Plus, a little bit goes a long way so that you can make this product last.

Customer Review: No lather does not mean bad shampoo
Summary: 5 Stars

I read on a website about the dangerous chemicals found in quite a few personal hygene products and decided to try a few that were listed with minimal harmful chemicals to no harmul chemicals. On that list was several Burt's Bees products and all the shampoo & conditioners.

I chose this one because out of a limited selection at one of the local stores it was either this or a volumizing (fluff hair for me) version.

I'm glad I read other reviews that spoke about a lack of lather and one review who actually noted the chemical used to make those "rich lather" shampoos because if I hadn't, I might have misunderstood this product.

Yes, there is almost no lather, but you won't miss it for the quality job it does for your hair. The shampoo not only rinses completely away, it takes off a lot of the residue left behind by other products/shampoo/conditioners/environmental stresses. What it leaves behind is a faint scent and squeaky clean hair. I honestly don't remember the last time my hair was this healthy. I've been using this shampoo with a Burt's Bees conditioner solely for about a month now. I'm amazed that the bottle has lasted that long, but you really don't need much despite having long hair. I will keep buying Burt's shampoos and conditioners and I would recommend them not only for the fact that they are ecologically friendly but because they are darn good products.

Customer Review: Not For Older (or Greyer) Women
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm sure this is a fine shampoo for others. It's not that it did a bad job on my hair but it did not do the special things the other reviewers mention. I imagine this is because I am older and with grey, normal to dry hair. So it does not make my hair any shinier or cleaner. The astringent qualities of the grapefruit probably make this far more ideal for a younger woman with oilier hair. I would definitely say "no" if you have dry hair, regardless of your age. Ditto as to women with any amount of grey hair. This shampoo is not cheap but it does smell good and does a good job on some women's hair. Is it better than a more economical shampoo? It may not be. A lot of the price has to do with the botanical experience of smelling this shampoo. If I use Herbal Essence (Clairol) through Sam's Club (fraction of price), it does a better job than this shampoo. I am unsure that a lot of these claims aren't any more than good advertising. Personally, if I am going to pay these big bucks for shampoos, I prefer either the Aubrey Organics or the Avalon Organic shampoos, also reviewed by me here at Amazon.

Customer Review: One of my favorites
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a nice shampoo that leaves my waist length hair looking very shiny. It is also one of the best smelling shampoos I have ever used. It lathers just enough. The conditioner seems to be absorbed by my hair very quickly and makes it easy to comb though. The shampoo is a little more thin than I was used to, but I would buy it again.
