Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Brother CS6000i Sew Advance Sew Affordable 60-Stitch Computerized Free-Arm Sewing MachineCustomer Review: 'Super Deal' - Very Satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
THE Brother CS6000I is a Computerized sewing machine, and should be operated with care. It was not designed for use in a 'sweat shop', so it will not last if it is used that way! eg. "drag stitching" at max speed -(pedal to the metal, and steer).
The CS6000I can sew at fast speed (800 stitch/min.) but we all know the best results, are always obtained from normal sewing speeds.
One of the best features is that it can operate without the foot control by usuing the Start / Stop / and Reverse electronic functions.
The included accessories cover all the stitches you will need for normal use, and the hard cover provides extra protection when its stored.
The CS6000I will not sew correctly with 'cheap thread' so forget about those bargain basement sales and buy thread from reputable sewing outlets.
I am not a pro at sewing so I wont comment on all of the CS6000I features.
The CS6000I will meet or exceed most of your sewing needs and is truely deserving of a Five Star rating.
ps. Amazon's Free Super Saver Shipping was fast I received the machine only four days after ordering, truely exceptional.
Customer Review: 1 1/2 years later... and still LOVING this machine Summary: 5 Stars
I originally bought this about 1 1/2 years ago to make curtains for my son's house (which is about all I knew how to use a sewing machine for) It was so easy to set up and use. The best features I would say are the needle threader and the drop in bobbin... wow what a difference from the machine I learned on where threading the machine took as long as the sewing project! Oh and changing the feet is SO easy, just push a button for it to fall off, and snap the new one on!
Well, after the curtain project was finished the machine was packed up and put in the storage room for about a year. I recently dug it out and made a permanent home for it in the office. Naturally, I couldn't find the owners manual for it so I went on line to Brothers support web site and there was a free download of the manual. I have to say that it is one of the best manuals I've seen. It not only covers the nitty gritty of the machine, but it also covers many aspects of sewing~ teaching you how to do several things in simple to follow directions. After a year in storage my machine was ready to go, just wipe it off and thread it. No oiling etc. I have now made several projects and am anxious to make many more. I LOVE this machine, I spent a lot of time trying to research different ones before I bought this one, and I couldn't be happier with my choice.
Tip if you are still considering a purchase: you can go to Brothers web site and download the owner's manual, it will give you lots of great information and show you what comes with it etc.
Customer Review: 5 stars - for the money Summary: 5 Stars
Bottom line - it isn't a $[...] machine and doesn't sew like one, but it is enough like one to make the price feel like a big bargain!
I am a sewing machine junky, or so my husband says. I didn't really need a new sewing machine last year, but my 8 year old wanted to start sewing. I had the $1000 machine and I had the older harder to use models. I needed something fairly cheap, but easy to use so that she could get her shot at things.
I researched fairly heavily and landed on the Brother CS6000I.
First, the machine was reasonably priced and came with tons of equipment. I like that I didn't have to go buy a flat table for quilting or all the various feet involved with that. I also appreciate the hard cover that came with it.
Second, it is easy to use. The bobbin winding is well marked, as is the threading of the machine. Picking the right stitch is easy - and there are 60 to choose from (kind of sort of - arguably, there are only about 58 or so, but that is getting picky.) There is a speed control, which was great for DD since she could set things up to stitch slowly at first. The manual is readable, but still a sewing machine manual, so a bit limited in usefulness.
Third, it is lightweight - and easy to move around.
OK - cons -
It doesn't feel like there is as much room to the right of the needle as some of my other machines. I think it has to do with the shape of the body - the curve kind of eats into your space if you have half a queen sized quilt rolled up so you can stitch on it.
There isn't much light, despite the fact that the brag about how bright the light is. However, I have a desk lamp set up to light the back of the machine and another on the left and I have all the light I want. It really isn't a big deal.
It doesn't have some stitches that I like - like a good blanket stitch for putting on binding. However, I have found other stitches that essentially do the same thing.
Anyway - I didn't get my daughter to use it as much as I intended. But, I have made several quilts on it this year and have enjoyed it much more than I ever expected. The money was well spent and knowing what I know now, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this machine again.
Customer Review: 5-Star Sewing Machine Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best sewing machine I have ever owned. It is simple to use and does and excellent job. The best part is the self threader! It took a few times before I figured out the threader, but once I did, I had no problems. I actually look for things to sew just so I can use it. I would highly recommend this sewing machine to everyone. If you don't enjoy sewing all that much, you will after using this machine! Also, you cannot beat it for the price.
Customer Review: :(((( Summary: 1 Stars
I was so excited when my brother cs6000i arrived on a Friday afternoon. I thought it would be great to catch up on hemming my daughters' hems on her shorts that I had been needing to do. I thought this was the perfect machine to try out one of the nifty decorative electronic stitches. Couldn't even get 1/4 of the way without an error message. So took out my work and thougth I just needed some practice on a scrap piece...Continued to get error message...And the machine kept locking up....I then proceded to break one needle and then bent 2 more. So I changed out 3 needles all in one day.....I thought it had to be me, as no sewing machine could possibly give me so much trouble. I wasn't about to give up. I continued with various decorative stiches and each time I got E5 error message...I called the manufacturer and after they had my name number where I lived, and a zillion other questions they finally told it needed servicing...When I get something brand new, I expect it to function like a new machine...Sadly, I sent it back......Amazon was great however!
