I have not had the experience of so many others here. The item is not easy to set up, one must be careful of the blades surrounding the borders of the slicer inserts. Not easy to clean, made mush of the tomatoes, and potatoes.

I come from Australia and I have been using the Borner V-slicer for over 25 years. It is easy to assemble, (the appropriate blade), easy at cleaning up, and doesn't use much storage space. The blades stay eternally sharp. My current one I have had for 18 years and is still razor sharp. I'm on my second Borner V-Slicer - and the only reason I bought the second one was because the original one was brown and orange, not because the blades dulled. (White looks so much better.) The hand guard is a must to use and is very easy and does not take any getting use to. As far as kitchen tools go, apart from a good set of knives, a blending wand and the Borner V-Slicer, you will not need any other tool in your kitchen to get every job done for any dish. I have made a gift of this tool to nearly everyone I know who loves to cook and entertain, (hence my recent purchases), and everyone loves it. What more is there to say? It is excellent value for money, not as pricey as some others, but certainly worth every cent. The Swissmar Borner V-Slicer Plus is the best slicer of it's type that I've used. The blade design is ingenious and the way the parts fit together for storage and safety is wonderful. I find that it does take a little practice to use since the food holder (also innovative) works best if you tilt it as you use it. This is illustrated in the manual, but it isn't intuitive.

Bought one of these in Austria 15 years ago. I use it daily and it is still as sharp as when it was new. Wanted one for my daughter and looked online to see if the same model was available. It was! It makes awesomely thin slices, small dices, and great matchsticks. I just love it.
