I've wanted a mandoline for quite a while, but didn't want to end up with something chintzy. This tool is sturdy, well put-together for both use and safety (they're not kidding, the blades are SHARP!), and is now sitting on my counter to be used nearly every day. It has a "safety catch" to keep the main part from slipping out of the holder, again great for keeping your skin attached to your fingers. I've had mine for 20 years. It's as sharp as when I bought it! You **DO** have to be careful to use the holder! The only thing I've had to replace is the 'hat' holder. It's neat, takes up very little space on the counter, upon which it's *always* in reach. Once you start using it, you'll find more & more uses for it! I use it for just about everything. Super for evenly sliced or diced tomatoes, onions, potatoes, apples, oranges, HB eggs, etc.; the only problem I've found is if the tomatoes are very soft, towards the end they get mushy. Great for fine or thick julienned fruits, veggies & HB eggs - lettuce & cabbage go faster than you could ever cut them with a knife! French cut fruits & veggies are incredibly easy. I can't say enough good things about this unit. Worth every penny!!! I put my Couisinart in the cupboard shortly after getting this and can't recall getting it out for anything since!
Oh, the color is an off white, not what I'd call tan, if that's important to you, but it's so incredibly useful you'll want it out anyway.

I bought mine in 1989, and have used it several times a week ever since! Last Christmas my sons were visiting and were trying to slice pepperoni by hand with a knife. I told them to try my V Slicer. Both of them and their woves said it wouldn't work because they had tried it with their slicers. I said, awe, just try it anyway. All of them were shocked that it did the job just GREAT! The clean up is so easy (just a quick rinse under the fawcet) that I haven't cut an onion, celery, or potato for scalloped potatoes or hash browns with a knife in YEARS! I cook all the time, and I suppose the professional adjustable mandolines are a bit better, but they're also well over $150 and up! This great gadget was the best $$ I've spent for a kitchen tool in 18 years!
DO USE THE FOOD HOLDER THOUGH! I have had a few "incidents" when I was in a hurry and just figured I'd be careful. Blood on the white potatoes or onions really doesn't look good, plus that darn cut has to heal too!

Our noisy onion chopper broke and I saw my friend using this, genius! Faster, easier, quiet, and perfect every time. I recommend it to everyone who comes into my kitchen. My husband even thinks it is great fun to make french fries with. I find a new need for it constantly. Cleaning it is SO easy and I love how all the attachments are stored in a holder.
