This is our second slicer from Borner. I laughed at my husband when he purchased the 1st in a mall kiosk 9 years ago, now I would never be without it. For perfect tomatoes, squash, beets, or potatoes nothing is better or faster. It is quick clean up and easy storage. I love the new safety design too. If you cook, slicing takes up lots of time. This is an excellent slicer. It did take me quite a while to get in the groove of things, but once I did it hasn't left my sight. It slices things evenly and efficiently. I slice potoatoes to saute', and many, many different vegetables for salad. I make the best coleslaw with the v-slicer.
Please note, I quickly lost the "food holder" that holds the food in place while you safely slice the vegetables. It seemed like a pain in the butt to me. I just couldn't slice with it. Even though I would not recommend this at home...a firm grip with my hand, and careful watch with my eye brings a perfect slice to the table every time.

I finally broke down and got the Swissmar Borner V-1001 Mandoline after thinking on it for almost 6 months. Am I ever glad I finally got off the stick and made the decision to order it. It is EFFECTIVE, easy to use, safe and small to store. Now that summer's bounty is finally upon us, preparation of fruits and vegetables is a breeze. It's so fast and I love the uniformity of product I get. Based on other reviews of this product I'm not worried about long term durability because it's already been proven by others. I am for sure not putting it in storage any time soon as I've been able to improve my intake of fruits and veggies just because of the sheer ease of using my v-slicer!!Customer Review: AWESOME!

What can I add that hasn't already been said? This is a fabulous kitchen tool. It makes such quick work of slicing food that I have no idea how i got along without it.
The warnings about it's sharpness are accurate. It's VERY, VERY sharp. Do not EVER use it without the safety holder. If you're slicing something and it doesn't move instantly through the slicer then you're doing something wrong... STOP. Reposition what you're cutting until it moves effortlessly through the blades.
Cleaning likewise demands care. It cannot be stressed enough how sharp this is. Even when cleaning you have to take extra care to with the blades. I usually just rinse mine in very hot water or soak it a bit, with a run through the dishwasher now and then. I just make sure to immediately remove it from the machine when the cleaning cycle is complete.
My only complaint is I'd like some sort of hard shell case for storage. But in the meantime I just use a shoebox sized clear container for it.
