Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker DCM18S Brew 'n Go Personal Coffeemaker with Travel MugCustomer Review: A perfect one cup coffee maker Summary: 4 Stars
This makes hot coffee fast. I use it at work. The cord is extremely short, so I have an extension cord on my desk for it. I used #1 paper coffee filters instead of the reusable filter because the reusable filters usually allow coffee dust through. The only thing I would like to see is a taller coffee mug. I use a larger mug so there's enough room for milk, so I pour the coffee from the shorter mug into my larger travel mug. If you drink your coffee black, you might not have this problem. The mug gets very hot, which probably means all the heat is escaping from the coffee. I don't know how long the coffee stays hot because I don't drink it from the original mug. If the coffee brewer was taller so I could use my own travel mug, I'd give it five stars.
Customer Review: A perfect one-cup Summary: 5 Stars
This little coffee machine is great - I highly recommend it for folks like me who just want one cup to walk out the door with! I've found that many of my travel mugs and ceramic mugs alike fit the machine, so I'm not bound to using only the mug provided with the coffeemaker. The coffee is always plenty hot, and the auto shut-off is great. A+!
Customer Review: A somewhat satisfied customer dreams of more... Summary: 3 Stars
This coffee maker is great in that it fits easily onto small kitchen counters and it does indeed have a permanent filter. Permanent filters are a nice plus--you don't have to go running around to several different stores to find the right size filter for your make of coffee maker. It cleans very quickly with soap and water or in a dishwasher, too.
The thermos mug is also very well constructed for such an inexpensive model. It also fits neatly into a car beverage holder--another plus!
However, maybe I got a lemon when I picked this out, because the coffee it made was never once hot on all the occasions I ever used it--merely warm. When I'm first starting my day I really like my cup of coffee hot. This goes double in the coldest months when it counts to have a nice hot start to your day.
Overall, either I bought a lemon just by bad luck or this coffee maker should be better constructed so as to make a truly hot cup of coffee! It's a great coffee maker for people on a budget; and it's great also for people who prefer warm coffee without having to wait for the coffee to cool down. But for me personally I was somewhat disappointed.
Customer Review: A yeomans Coffeemaker Summary: 4 Stars
For the $$, it does a yeomans job! I have been using it for about a month, and have run over a pound of coffee through it already. One of the features that makes it better than others is the permanent filter. No searching for coffee filters while half asleep. One of the features that takes some getting used to is the coffee is brewed and drips into the cup while the lid is on. But it makes sense from a safety standpoint, the cup supplied has a narrower base that lip (to fit in a cupholder), and is somewhat top heavy. Overall, worth the $$.
Customer Review: AC switch dies after a few weeks Summary: 1 Stars
We bought one of these Brew 'N Go units in early December 2008 and the AC power switch died in two weeks. Otherwise my wife loved the coffee it brewed. So we got another one and this one's power switch lasted 5 weeks. We called Black & Decker about the first unit and they did say they would replace it if we had the original sales receipt (we didn't), but since we paid $17 plus tax it wasn't a big deal. Bottom Line:- Decent return policy but shoddy merchandise.
