Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker DCM18S Brew 'n Go Personal Coffeemaker with Travel MugCustomer Review: A great choice for one cup if you know the simple key Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent product for those of us who want only one cup a day or who want a cup to take with us. I don't use the travel mug for home use, just a mug. As for complaints about spilled coffee grounds and overflowing, the key is to make sure the two baskets are in the right place. The outer basket with the tab has to be at the 9:30 position for the tab, and the inner basket with the filter has to fit with its tab at 9:00. That's all there is to it. With properly seated baskets it will never leak, overflow or spill grounds into the reservoir. If you use just a coffee cup or mug, be sure not to overfill the reservoir. These may seem like no-brainer instructions, but the instructions that come with it aren't very clear. Given good coffee beans freshly ground and keeping it clean, this inexpensive item will make excellent coffee without a lot of waste and no paper filters. I've had mind for six months using it every day without any problems at all
Customer Review: A great cuppa joe -- to go! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this little coffeemaker for making the first thing in the morning coffee while away from home, though it would be great for home use also.It works very quickly, and I didn't have any sort of 'overflow' problem. I still put a regular coffee filter into the basket to make cleanup a little easier. Coffee comes out nice and hot, but of course it won't stay that way indefinitely as there is not any sort of warming device, just the insulated cup. I would recommend this item to anyone who likes to travel and have a cup of coffee without first leaving the cabin/hotel room/tent/etc.!
Customer Review: A great little coffee maker Summary: 4 Stars
This coffee maker is ideal for a quick cup of coffee or hot water for tea or cocoa. It works very fast and is quiet. I use a paper filter to assure no grounds in my cup of coffee, but that just makes for a very easy cleanup.
Customer Review: A lifesaver Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a single parent so this device works great for me. I am a 1 cup a day drinker. It is small and doesn't take up very much counter space. I love it and haven't had any problems at all.
Customer Review: A lifesaver for those on the go... Summary: 5 Stars
As a grad student with a more-than-hectic schedule, I usually roll out of bed and run out the door. This Brew 'n Go Personal Coffeemaker and Travel Mug have saved the day! Water heats extremely rapidly and it takes no more than 2 minutes from turning the unit on until my coffee/tea is ready.
I use it to heat water for tea more often than I use it for coffee, and I've found that I have to let the tea steep a little longer than if I'd boiled the water on the stove, but it's still extremely convenient and easy to use.
The 15-oz. travel mug retains heat well and has a rubber-coated handle and nonskid bottom, which is a nice feature. The coffeemaker can be used with a permanent filter or paper filters (I prefer using disposable unbleached paper filters to the wire basket filter, as it can be messy to clean from the coffee bean oil accumulations). The coffeemaker shuts off automatically after brewing, another nice feature for those on the go (and one less thing to worry about on the way to work).
My only complaint would be that the plastic-coated inside of the travel mug is scratched up from using spoons to stir in sugar.
Overall, a good value for a rapid, portable mug of joe. For those who are coffee junkies, this will save you hundreds of dollars over buying your morning coffee fix from Starbucks, Beaners or Second Cup.
