Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker BL1900 5-Speed Blender with 48-Ounce Glass Jar, Brushed Stainless

Customer Review: Great Blender, Long Lasting
Summary: 5 Stars

I had mine for over 2 years and made smoothies 3-4 times per week in it. When I first bought it I had only used the ~$20 variety - what an incredible step up. The blade design was better than any other blender I've used (it would always get all the little chunks). It was easy to clean and it was very robustly built. Very powerful - despite all my requests that my roommates not use it to blend things that were too trying, they did. And it took it like a champ.

Two years of constant use and it was as good as the day I bought it - I probably couldn't recommend a blender any more highly.

Customer Review: Great design, bad motor
Summary: 1 Stars

The motor failed on two of these blenders. The lesson: get a more powerful pro model brand with good customer reports for prolonged use. I bought one from Target and it failed after the second smoothie batch. Back to Target and because I liked the design so much I got an exact replacement. Sad to say after a few more smoothie batches, another motor failure. Forget strawberries and bananas. This B & D model is a lemon.

Customer Review: Horrible Piece of Machinery
Summary: 1 Stars

I have had two Black&Decker blenders. Both of them have died on me. This particular model ran for about 4 months of regular use. The other one, which I was told was a better model, BL14500 series, died on me after 5 uses. After my experience, I strongly believe B&D blennders simply suck. Their motors have extremely poor life. I wudn't suggest buying them even on sale. If you just have to buy it inspite of all my warning, please choose one with mechanical buttons rather than the touch pad. The electrical connections in the touch pad are so bad that the blender starts blending abt 10 minutes after you press the button. The only adjective that fits this machine is HORRIBLE.

Customer Review: Horrible motor
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this blender because my previous one was almost 25 years old, and while it still worked, it was an eyesore. This blender worked fine for about the first month I had it. I used it maybe once a week to make a smoothie. Then it started dieing on me every once in a while. Within 4 months it was completely dead. And it wasn't as though I was blending anything that required a lot of power, just fruit and yogurt. It was very disappointing.

Customer Review: I guess I got lucky
Summary: 3 Stars

After reading all the terrible reviews, I guess I was lucky and bought the new, improved model. I've had it for a year and use it maybe twice a week for smoothies. However, I bash the ice cubes before adding them. Otherwise, you're asking for trouble.

My problem now is that the plastic screw on bottom, where the blade and rubber ring sit, cracked. If I can find a replacement part, it would be great. I'd hate to have to toss the whole blender out because of a cheap part.
