Customer Review: DO NOT BUY THIS BLENDER!! It Blew up on me with Smoke!

I read the reviews after buying this blender and I was a bit wary but I decided I would give it a try. I had it for less than 3 weeks and used it for only 2 as I was away. I tried (note the word "tried") to make a shake yesterday morning containing only berries, a banana and soymilk. I turned it on and turned away for a second to get my glass when I smelled this awful rubber smell. I turned back to the blender to see large puffs of smoke and the engine seemingly grinding into itself before my eyes. I quickly unplugged the blender and when I picked up the glass jar - all these metal pieces came flying at me and the little rubber stopper flew out and fell atop my kitchen counter all charred. I had to throw out my shake and at the bottom of it the blade had completely fallen off. This was not a big job for this machine. What a disaster. I went out and bought an Oster 10-speed blender today in a hurry to replace this one and although it was very inexpensive and had only a plastic jar, it blended my shake this evening with NO PROBLEMS. This blender looks great and seems to be well made. I thought the power was sufficient until on the 5th use, I decided to make my smoothie a little thicker (slightly less milk). It started well but after about 20 seconds it sounded like it was struggling. I stopped it and manually stirred it to push down the couple of chunks of frozen peach still at the top. It stirred easily and didn't seem very thick to me. I started out on high again and 10 seconds later it burnt-out. Clearly, I need way more power for even slightly thick drinks. Now, I am looking at the Blend-Tec's and Vita-Mix's but they are $350+ blenders that will turn chunks of wood into sawdust.Customer Review: Died within 6 months

I bought this blender and the motor died within 6 months--I only used it for an occasional smoothie. Even when it did work, it would leave chunks and sounded as loud as a jet engine. Would not recommend purchasing this model.Customer Review: Disappointment

I really should know better than to buy anything without an amazon review, but blenders are no-brainers, right? Guess not!
I had a $20 blender that had a lot of use and stank of burned motor every time I tried it, though it still worked, so we got this thing. It was heavy duty, fairly expensive at $50, and its 550 W motor promised to not disappoint. We've had it for about a year and yesterday it died.
I had a large chunk of frozen smoothie I was trying to remake. Granted, that's a good bit of stress on a motor, but I really didn't feel it was insane and I wasn't ragging on the motor too badly. The motor wasn't smelling, but it was under some duress, so about half way through I turned it off to give the motor a rest. And that's the last time it ever worked. No burn smell, didn't even feel that hot to the touch, but now it will not turn on.
I've been happy with B&D products in the past, but this motor cannot handle what it should. I'm glad to see others here have had problems just so that I know it wasn't entirely my fault. I feel if a tool breaks, bad tool. This one broke, now I will spend a lot more money to get a blender I can cut stones in, because nothing is worse than a weak blender. Nothing!
And the next blender will not be a black and decker. This is the first B&D product that has ever failed me.

I purchased this blender about a year and a half ago and just last week the motor burnt out. I only used it about once or twice a month if that. I've talked with a Black and Decker supervisor and was offered nothing. Don't waste your money on this blender or this company who won't back their faulty and poor quality products.
