We used this product for a short period of time. There were too many things going against it. The top ends up needing to be removed completely as it gets WAY too hot to handle and basically is in the way. The kettle needs to be refilled frequently and in order to do this, you need to either get boiling water in another kettle off the stove and refill it, or take it off the stove and set it on a trivet of some sort to cool completely. The kettle is quite hefty especially with water in it. The handle gets very hot, so have a glove ready to use if you need to take it off the stove to add wood etc (we have a top load - another strike against the kettle - you have to take it off frequently to add wood). It also rusts almost immediately and that won't clean off even with a brillo pad.
ANY pot will work - especially if you use a trivet to even out the heat distribution. You do not need one of these cute kettles to add heat. That is the only plus it has going for it really - it is cute. It adds to the rustic charm of a woodstove. We have a much lighter pot sitting on top of a trivet and it is easier to use, is an old enamel pot and does not rust. The kettle will become a planter :-)
