Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of American Weigh Signature Series Black AWS-100 Digital Pocket Scale, 100 by 0.01 GCustomer Review: Great product Summary: 5 Stars
Great product. It came pre-calibrated. I tested the calibration with a 100g calibration weight at it was dead on. Easy to use and store, and very versatile. Easily the best product for the price.
Customer Review: Great product, great price Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this scale to weigh out homebrewing ingredients after an older kitchen scale crapped out. I didn't realize it went down to such finite accuracy which is pretty impressive for a $25 scale (I was expecting to pay a lot more). The different modes are useful since I use it for varied ingredients like hops, spices, dried orange peel, coriander, and clarifying agents in my zymurgical hobby. I don't really need .01 gram accuracy but I guess it's cool that it is so precise. Works fine so far, great product at a great price!
Customer Review: Great scale Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the scale for weighing loose tea. One serving of tea is 2.2 grams.
When I opened the package I first had a problem trying to open the lid. There's a little button to release the latch. The casing comes off as a bit cheap.
I turned the scale on and it didn't work. I looked in the battery compartment and although the batteries were inserted (two AAA's), there was plastic wrap around each of them. I unwrapped the batteries and tried again, and bingo, the scale lit up like a charm!
However, the underlying scale is awesome! It has a really nice LED readout. The scale works great. I used the tare to weigh a small bowl and put the tea in it. It pretty much weighted a serving of tea within 1/100th of a gram.
So the scale works really well. For the price, it's a great buy!
Customer Review: Great scale at this price Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this scale for a couple years, and I'm very happy with it. It's accurate, repeatable +/- 0.02 grams on different days, and has held up through moderate handling (nothing abusive, but stuff that I'd never put my lab scale through).
It uses what I call a "floating zero". This is good and bad... When within 0.03 grams of zero and steady, it displays 0.00 and slowly adjusts its zero. If you slowly add 0.01 grams at a time, you can get it to drift way off, and when you eventually take off all the weights at once, it'll display -0.20 grams or whatever their weight was. The good is that the scale, despite its inexpensive mechanism, keeps very good zero calibration between measurements. The downside is that it makes small measurements difficult. If you want to weigh out 0.15 grams of powder, you can't just tare your weigh paper and then gradually pour it on - the zero will drift unless you add the first 0.05 grams quickly enough. Instead, you can NOT tare it, and manually subtract the weigh paper.
This feature is not a problem at all unless you're weighing very small (less than 0.1 grams) items on a regular basis. I think this is an acceptable compromise for a pocket scale of this precision at this price (and it's practically standard until you get to much more expensive equipment), so I am not marking any points off.
Customer Review: Great scale! Summary: 5 Stars
Great scale if you need it for stuff not that heavy. Works great. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
