Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of the Pinzon Red Wine Opener with Foil Cutter and Corkscrew

Customer Review: Opens wine bottles swiftly, but not without its drawbacks.
Summary: 3 Stars

Pros: Simple to use with comfortable large handles (similar in feel to the OXO Goodgrips, minus the rubberization) and requires very little force or grip strength. Possibly a great gift for the arthritic wine connoisseur. Operates smoothly (for the most part) and is attractive with its vibrant color and flowing lines. A less expensive option that is more or less identical to the Metrokane Rabbit.

Cons: The design would really benefit from a latch to keep the arms that grasp the bottle together when being stored. They are lightly spring loaded and can cause the opener to get stuck at the back of the drawer if you're not careful. A rubber band around them solves this problem readily. The design is much bulkier than the more common design openers. When all the limbs are stowed as compact as it goes, it occupies an envelope about 2" x 8" x 5" Also removing the cork from the screw after you have the bottle open can be a chore if you don't get it right the first time. Also the foil cutter is not built into the opener but is a separate gizmo. The packaging it comes in is very minimal/unattractive and no hard copy instructions are included in the package.

All in all I still find my old opener (comparable to Pedrini Wine & Bar Waiters Corkscrew, Translucent ) to a better choice as it is much more compact (pocket sized) and just as effective, if a hair more tricky to use, plus the foil cutter is built in, not floating around in my gadget drawer.
