Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Aerobie 80R08 AeroPress Coffee and Espresso MakerCustomer Review: A Gift from the Valar Summary: 5 Stars
Of the all the technological wonders to grace the human existence, these simple pieces of plastic and rubber have transformed my dull, ordinary life into a more fantastic, fulfilled and caffeinated one. Making coffee in this is as if the Valar themselves reached down and handed us a gilded cup full of this sweet and bitter nectar. The scales have fallen from my eyes and I see the foul lies I have fed by drip coffee makers, stove top moka pots and french press fanatics for once I tasted the brew brought forth from the Aeropress' loins, I wept with joy at finally being able to taste what coffee roasters have long been describing in their precious-sounding, wine-like bean notes (hints of chocolate, cardamon and smoke, with a bright, woodsy finish), but also I wept tears of rage at having wasted half my life to over-cooked, over-steeped, gut-gnawing swill which passes as coffee in the United States. My heart sinks a little when I am away from my Aeropress for long and forced to get coffee at a Starbucks or, worst, Dunkin Donuts, which is why I carry my Aeropress, or "coffee-syringe" as I endearingly call it, in a fleece lined bag when travelling. When staying a friend's houses, I mercilessly subject them to the benefits of my coffee syringe like a man who has found the key to eternal happiness and must tell every living soul the good news lest they be thrown into a fiery pit of despair (don't even think of escaping) where there is much crying and gnashing of teeth.
Like many who have reviewed this fine, life-changing, product, I use the upside-down method; whereas you flip the thing so the plunger is at the bottom of the tube and you pour water through where you'd screw the filter on. A digital thermometer tells me when the water is just right and a cannibalized gold-filter coffee cone replaces the stack of paper-filters (much cleaner tasting and less waste). Two scoops of ground coffee and 3 minutes later, you are drinking the finest, smoothest brew to ever pass your lips, never again to return to your newly antiquated and inefficient method of brewing. As one who used to put milk in the coffee to hide the stomach-burning, acid-inducing taste, I now go sans milk just to see what new gifts of taste my Aeropress has bequeathed on me this morning. Is that chocolate and cardamon I taste? Yes it is, my friend, yes it is.
Go forth and purchase this product and rejoice in it's everlasting wonder. You will fall on your knees and thank the gods for it.
Customer Review: A Perfect Cup of Coffee! Summary: 5 Stars
AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker
A co-worker introduced me to the AeroPress Coffee and Espresso maker after we decided to brew our coffee in the office rather than buying a cup dailey at our local gas station. It's quick, convenient and easy to do. No bitter coffee taste. A perfect cup of coffee EVERY time! A must have for any coffee lover!
Customer Review: A Poor Man's Pavoni Summary: 5 Stars
The Aeropress makes delicious coffee, is light, cheap, and appears to be practically indestructible, and is easy to clean. Also, it makes DELICIOUS coffee. Highly recommend.
Customer Review: A VERY Pleasing Start to Your Day! Summary: 5 Stars
As a coffee snob I have every type of coffee maker, but this beats them all. As one other person mentioned, the absence of any bitterness completely changes the way your coffee tastes. I searched for hours and read a ton of reviews for a single cup coffee maker that would make a great cup of coffee without breaking the bank. This is The One.
I grind my coffee from whole bean and use distilled water. Distilled water will change the way your coffee tastes from any coffee maker. I definitely prefer it.
I use 3 scoops from a regular sized coffee scoop (that's one very heaping scoop of the one included - I like strong coffee). I have not used a thermometer, I just gathered from reading other reviews that the water should be well below boiling. I fill it all the way to the top (just past the 4 mark) and stir then press. I then only need to add a little bit of hot water to fill up my cup. Absolutely delicious. I can easily see my coffee consumption increasing simply because it's so flavorful.
I know this will be my last coffee maker for quite awhile. Enjoy!
Customer Review: A brilliant device! Summary: 5 Stars
You could spend hundreds or thousands to achieve coffee nirvana in the comfort of your home, but why would you? The AeroPress is a brilliant, sturdy, easy-to-use device that allows you to brew a cup of coffee equal to or better than high-end machines. My guests have unanimously agreed.
The AeroPress also brews a cup of coffee superior to a french press--for the same or less money. No sludge. Zero bitterness. Much easier to clean. Tons of flavor. My french press has been collecting dust since I acquired this device.
If you are hesitating to purchase the AeroPress because you don't think it'll extract as much caffeine as other brewing methods, not to worry.
Perhaps my favorite thing about the AeroPress is that it allows you full control over the strength and quality of your brew. You can experiment with various grind settings and bean-to-water ratios until you find the perfect balance to suit your taste. If you're in the mood for a stronger or weaker brew, it's easy to achieve by adjusting the ingredients.
Visit the manufacturer's web site to view a video showing how easy it is to use the AeroPress.
My usual method (derived from experimentation to suit my taste):
(1) Boil enough water to fill a high-quality carafe (see below)
(2) Assemble the device
(3) Using a burr grinder, grind two scoops of beans on the espresso setting
(4) Dump ground beans into the tube
(5) Fill the tube with hot water (to the 4 mark)
(6) Stir for 10-12 seconds
(7) Press
(8) Top off with a bit of hot water
I highly recommend purchasing the Zojirushi Premium Thermal 1-Liter Carafe, Brushed Stainless Steel (or the larger model). Keeping hot water ready to go in the carafe means a second or third cup is just a minute or two away. I also suggest purchasing a few units of extra filters (Aeropress Filters 350 Pack).
