Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of AeroPress Coffee and Espresso MakerCustomer Review: After 2 Months of use Summary: 5 StarsAbout 2 months ago, based on the good reviews here, I bought the AeroPress. Since then, I have used it nearly every day. I came back and read the bad reviews to see if I experienced anything that people complained about. I did not. I still love the AeroPress.
Coffee is purely an individual taste item. The way I like mine is not how someone else likes theirs. I probably wouldn't make regular coffee with this, although I assume it would be easy and taste good.
I love smooth, non-acidic, full-bodied cappuccino. I have tried 7 different automatic cappuccino makers over the years, all at varying price points. After a time, two things consistently happen, whether I paid $100 or $1,000 for the machine: The milk frother stops working well and the coffee gets musty tasting, even with regular cleaning.
With the AeroPress, I use a medium to coarse grind. I use 1 scoop per shot of espresso. I can see when the water is the right temp by how the bubbles come up in my glass tea kettle. (I used a thermometer once to see what water the right temp looks like.) I put 1/2 cup of milk in a microwave proof plastic bowl and heat it about 1 ? minutes in the microwave, then whisk it with a wire whisk and get lots of long-lasting foam. Perfect cappuccino every time, quick and easy. Once the water is boiling it takes less than 2 minutes to take my first sip.
Easy cleanup, and everything goes inside the microwave proof plastic milk frothing bowl, and up into the cabinet, ready for next time.
As for the 11 steps or something that is outlined in one of the low ratings - ridiculous. You can put coffee grounds into a Mr. Coffee, fill the reservoir with water, walk away, come back and have a cup of coffee. Comparing the AeroPress to automatic drip coffee is silly, in my opinion. Kind of like comparing a Macintosh apple to a Granny Smith apple. One isn't better than the other, they are both apples, they just taste different and just as many will love Macintosh as the Granny Smith. The AeroPress does not make automatic drip coffee, as it isn't an automatic drip coffee maker. Makes outstanding cappuccino, though, and doesn't cost $1,000!
Description of AeroPress Coffee and Espresso MakerThe AeroPress is an entirely new way to make coffee, American style or Espresso style for use in lattes, cappucinos and other espresso based drinks. AeroPress brews simply delicious coffee, 1-4 cups per pressing. Ideal water temperature and faster brewing yields rich flavor with lower acidity and without bitterness. Other brewing processes use near boiling water and long exposure to coffee grounds. Quickly brew a variety of coffee drinks including an Americano or an espresso-style shot for use in lattes or cappuccinos. Its total-immersion system permits extraction at a moderate temperature and a short brew time. Water and grounds are mixed together for 10 seconds, then gentle air pressure pushes the mix through a micro-filter in just 20 seconds, which avoids the bitterness of long processes such as drip brewing. The air pressure also gently squeezes the last goodness from the grounds, further enriching the flavor. The total brewing time of only 30 seconds results in an exceptionally smooth brew.
