I bought the Aquachef before going away on a vacation, as most people do. Some things I first noticed; programming is a bit ambiguous, but I figured it out; the device feels like it's going to break when you pull the drum off to fill it (there's no release, you just pull it), and the supply door is just a bent plastic fold, not really a door (mine is already starting to break), and the "clamp" was too narrow to get over either of my tank rims (they are regular plastic frames), I had to cut off the screw clamp and rely on the velcro to hold it on, it leans at an angle with the velcro barely holding it in place.
I have had it for about nine months now, it periodically loses all power, you have to bang it go get the display to come back on, all programming gets lost. If you disturb the machine (for instance when trying to pull the drum off) it loses power. Today, I noticed that the feeding latch was in the wrong position, after hitting manual feed a few times, I saw that the drum only goes around 180 degrees, not 360, so the feeding latch only lets food out every other cycle. I changed the batteries, re-programmed it, and it still only goes half way around.
Basically, it's junk. When I first noticed it losing power, I bought another brand as a back-up and I have both running. That feeder isn't much higher quality. I would love to find a high quality, reliable feeder.

Ok, this is a nice feeder. I like it better then our last that sounded like it was grinding gravel. However, holy cow, what ever you do DON'T LOOSE THE INSTRUCTIONS. Programming the thing requires the most counter-intuitive convoluted set of steps that make no sense at all and are completely illogical. You will NEVER figure it out for yourself. It is so retarded, even if you figure it out one time, forget it, you will never remember and be able to do it again. Who programs this stuff???Customer Review: RELIABLE FEEDER

Good product, does what it suppose to do. Setting the feeding time was
easy as 1-2-3. (why are so many people having trouble?). The clamp does
not retract far enough to fit over a tank with a wider lip, but that can be easily overcome by unscrewing the suction cup from the clamp bolt and
not using it. I am very please with this feeder.

Honestly, this is the best peice of fish equipment i own (and that is saying something!). It's easy to figure out the digitable timer--there's a step by step guide for it. I love the number of feeding options. In my experience, if you don't have at least 2, 3" fish or larger it will over feed even on the lowest setting. I love that my fish have a regular feeding schedule all the time-- I've used this EVERY DAY for the past 4 months and it's worked flawlessly, still on the original battery set.
