Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Current USA Aquachef Auto Fish FeederCustomer Review: I like it, I like it a lot * Summary: 4 Stars
My wife and I are big fish lovers and also like to travel, weather permitting. We have three aquariums in our home. A 30 gal, a 20 gal, and a 10 gal fry tank. I work 5 days a week and come weekends we are out of here. Purchased a $40.00 auto feeder from a local Pet supply store and it worked for 20 minutes and quit. They replaced it and the same thing happened so we got our money back and purchased the AquaChef to feed the 30 gallon tank. Set it up and let it feed the fish in the 30 gallon tank for several days to see how it worked. Its hell to program if you don't read the instructions. If you go thru them once step by step and it rather simple. My 12 year old granddaughter programmed it in about 5 minutes the first time but did not understand military time so had it feeding at the wrong time but working very well. I helped her with the time setting and it began feeding flawlessly. With the exception of the fry tank, they all will have one of these on it. Don't let the instructions scare you, my granddaughter didn't. Going to purchase several more by my aquariums and my daughters. I love it !!!
UPDATE:
Mounting the device with the clamping device is rather simple. The C clamp will attach to the front of all aquariums. Do this: place the device close to a lightbulb for 10 minutes to get the plastic more pliable. Not close enough to melt it however. Now remove the rubber suction cup from the inside of the clamp. This should be put away for future use. Use the non-hook side of the velcroe which is just a soft buffer for the glass. Place it where you want the feeder. Now slide the clamp down till it hits the inside of the plastic and gently open the clamp a small amount. It will spring back, no problem. Do not overdue the spreading of the clamp and do it slowely. Now the inside protion will go directly against the glass and the screw can be turned in against the velcroe. Tight and secure. Works extremely well.
Customer Review: It works but requires thought to get it started Summary: 4 Stars
This product works great. It definitely requires reading the instructions to program the timing mechanism. If you can manage to set up a digital watch or clock, you can manage this one. It has taken some experimentation to determine how much food the fish will really get from the feeder. Since the hopper trap door is on top, moisture from the aquarium doesn't seem to be a problem. In comparison to other products, this one offers a lot of options for the money.
Customer Review: Love it Summary: 5 Stars
This feeder works great as long as you follow the directions and complete ALL the steps for setting it up. After programming the current time, you set the times you want them to eat, THEN go back to those times and select 1 rotation or 2, depending on how much you want them to have. The default is 0, so that's why it didn't work for me at first. Now that I have it programmed correctly it works great, right on schedule. The mounting bracket did not fit on the edge of my tank and it comes with double sided tape just in case that happens. But, I wanted to be able to easily take it down to refill/reprogram/change the batteries, so I used Velcro instead of the tape. The Velcro works great but the unit does lean a little to the side. I put a quarter under that side and it's level again. Be sure to save the directions for when you want to reprogram, because it can be a little confusing without them.
Customer Review: Must have for aquarium owners Summary: 5 Stars
I had earlier used Penn-Plax fish feeder but that lasted only 1 month. It just stopped working for no reason. I like this product very much. Unlike many other reviewers, I did not find it difficult to follow the instructions to operate this automatic fish feeder. You may find it difficult, if you like to set it by yourself without reading the instructions stepwise. You can even keep 1-2 xerox copies of the instructions, if you have the habit of misplacing user manuals. This fish feeder allows to set 1-4 times food for fishes. There is 'single feeding' and 'double feeding' options which could be helpful if you have many (my guess, 20+) fishes in your aquarium. I'm now tension-free about feeding my two lovely goldfishes when going out on vacation or night outs! Recommended for all the fish tank or aquarium owners.
Customer Review: No Problems Summary: 4 Stars
I've had this feeder for about 2 months and it works great. Slightly complicated to program but if you can follow the directions it's no problem. The one downside is the narrow opening for the attachment to the side of the tank. Opened all the way up it barely fits. I believe the suction cup can be removed but I was able to make it work with it still attached. Also, you may have to crumble you food if you are feeding with the "less food" opening. But overall, this is a great product.
